Ha Ha Ha Charles. Those XFTs definitely are beauties and are super light. I rode Charles's Jetworks ADA motor in a lead-weight OEM hull and then the same motor in his XFT. Incredible difference shedding 70+ pounds can make (power to weight ratio).

You may also want to replace the pump seal (Yamaha calls this packing) that goes between the pump and shoe. 10+ years of being compressed and possibly repeatedly removed and reinstalled can wear these out (stay compressed to the point where they don't fill the gap adequately).

Take a look in the SJ manual if you have one. If you take out your midshaft assembly and measure the protrusion of the rear of the shaft, it should be around 20-23mm. I would hope that you find that yours is sticking out a bit more. Then, using a brass or soft face hammer, tap yours in until...
