Whats wrong with my coupler???

So I threw the motor in for my drive down. OMG look at that gap, thats as much as i can ush it back....

Whats going on here???

I did punch in a roundnose midshaft shaft into a 91 midshaft housing to use thouse UMI couplers..... they were the same lenghts though... im almost positive.....

the pump fits......

mines not much better than that its barley touching...ive had my ski for a while and never had to remove the coupler cover...i finally did and i was shocked when i saw the gap...ill wait til it breaks then move into my rn hull..:rolleyes:..its taken some huge hits w/o a problem but im assuming thats still too big of a gap...dont you have some adjustment on the plate?

the 4 bolts that mout the bedplates to hull are maxed out... do you mean try and lossen the 9 bed plate bolts and kick them back maybe..... i might be able to gain an 1/8 there...... can i pres my shaft up further..... i notice the drie shaft has a like 1.5 inch grasp.....

thats what i meant...honestly after looking at the pic again mine about the same as that..who knows how long its been like that.the guy built my boat in 01 or something

Take a look in the SJ manual if you have one. If you take out your midshaft assembly and measure the protrusion of the rear of the shaft, it should be around 20-23mm. I would hope that you find that yours is sticking out a bit more. Then, using a brass or soft face hammer, tap yours in until it is 20-23mm. Try this before removing your bedplates and havign to retorque your motor. Keep us updated as to what you find.

ah... looks like i was wrong..... my back is at 30mm..... 20 is at that line on there..... so i guess ill prop it up and beat it with a rubber mallet.... i hate to beat bearing..... but im at a temp housing location and have limited tools.....
