Surfriding Looking for some advice on which direction I should go

An FX1 is better for smaller riders that have good balance. The pump must be changed to get decent thrust, especially in surf.

650/X-2 14.5 impeller on X2 - how do you rate it

Old straight pitched impellers are poor performers in white water compared to a big hub swirl. A 14.5 will work well with raised ports and/or shortened pipes. The only way it would be too short is with a stock cylinder and full length Coffmans pipe. At least modify a 750 concord 11-16 or...

Custom/Hybrid How to convert ski to a 155 Pump

OEM 155s bolt in place of 144s. The inlet needs to be widened for best results. Giant twins are working well with even bigger pumps mainly because of inlet effiecency. There is also a dynamic pressure gain with larger diameters considering their max rpm.

Super Jet I need more power. What is the next step?? 701 Freestyle/Surf SN

Add up the value of all the parts and compare it to a complete ski. Complete skis become good deals if they have enough aftermarket parts and are still fairly new. Just know that ALL older skis have rusty cranks, torn mounts, chaffed lines, E-box and stator full of water, worn splines, etc. A...

    Custom/Hybrid solas mag prop spacing..

The problem that I had with the Solas 12-18 was too much load for my high port 701, way too much load. I flattened it out and it is fine now. A low port 771 would be minimum for this impeller in stock form. As far as the gap, its far down on the list of "things to worry about". My...

    Flow Guards efficiency in surf?

Some shops are using a flexible plastic, metal, and/or rubber extension on the fixed nozzle to seal the gap at full throw. This is a cheap and easy way to do it with existing parts. A better way would be to use a Kawasaki ZXI style steer nozzle with its hemispherical bucket and a rigid bulb...

Custom/Hybrid big bore engines knocking sound?

It could also be the chamber hitting the head pipe under the coupler. The last major rattle I had was the chamber hitting the front mount.

Super Jet Dry foam on a '97 Superjet?

I make use of small holes and a vacuum pump. After drying out the foam you can easily find and fix the leak.

Other PHP 937 or DASA 970?

Remember that pump load squares with rpm, there is very little load at low rpm. Trapped volume is the most reliable indicator of low rpm torque on any two stroke. Look at dyno charts for outboards, torque below 4000 is inversely proportional to port height and directly proportional at 8000. This...

Blaster Yam 1100 blaster impeller question

Get a tach and load it to 6900 on glass with the stock CDI, this will take a steep impeller. An A/M ignition will allow more rpm which is what the smaller 144 needs for best thrust.

Other PHP 937 or DASA 970?

How many riders know what RPM their engines are loaded to? That is the most basic and important aspect of tuning anything running in a fluid. Without this info you are shooting in the dark yet nobody seems to care. Anything that is larger sells without question, this is why builders offer no...

Other PHP 937 or DASA 970?

There doesnt seem to be much interest in charts and numbers with this segment of motorsports. Participants spend whatever it takes for a backflip. Smaller budgets settle for barrel rolls. Higher costs bring more prestige among peers, that is all people are really after. If every ski and every...

    650/X-2 trueing 650 crankshaft?

Measure it first, leave it alone if less than .003". It is important to check even new cranks because they can be way out and it will put unnecessary load on the bearings.

    Freestyle superjet pump question?

Start with a large hub impeller, it will work well with a stock stator and is worth nearly half the total gain. The Solas stator will further enhance hookup. This becomes most noticeable in rough water, especially with high power. If you ride in clear water then get the power first. Do the pump...
