not very long at all. when the ski is upside down, the valve flapper inside the one-way valve falls open and lets water in. that's why I suggested two or three valves in-line, with one of them positioned upside down to the other one or two. that way it will function normally at keeping water out while the other one or two are dropped open, until the ski is righted.

It is better to keep silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt

Scuppers don't act on gravity, they act on pressure, so even if it is upside-down it will open. You can put one on your ski upside-down and it will still let water out, somewhat slower, but it will still do it. When the ski is upside-down, air comes out the scupper while water goes in other openings normally, like the hood tubes, handlepole bracket area, etc.

exactly. Scuppers sink skis because they let air our that keeps the ski afloat

not sure why you have to be so condescending about correcting someone, darrin. or you just naturally insult people without knowing it? or just all around intentionally? the way Harrison described it, and what I was under the impression that this thread was about was leaky scupper valves letting water "back" in, and in harrisons case, while upside down. I don't think that makes me a "fool". just having a conversation. right? sometimes it's better to not insult people that support your site. whether you care or not. :dunno:

just for your information, one-way "flapper" type valves will drop open when upside down, and will allow water back through and into the hull, along with all the air intakes etc.. the hinges have to have some give to them or they wouldn't work, nor would where the flapper is attached be considered a "hinge" for that matter.

ATP One Way Scupper works great for flat water. Can't speak about how it would work in the surf since I only ride flat water here in MI. Just as and FYI I also run a bilge. My advice is for you to operate on the side of caution depending on where you are riding (flat or surf) and put in whatever is necessary to prevent your ski from sinking. I.E. Good good hood seal, brap strap, single/dual bilge for flat water if used in conjuction with a good scupper, etc

I agree - we use ATP and the are really good - no t even a drop inside from the scupper...

My 24-7 old school didn't leak at all. My new one (that I won't mention) leaks like crazy. As far as I am concerned scuppers are manadatory...When I go to the ocean in large surf I will plug it, but for flat, mandatory.

I also run an 1100 Rulemate automatic floating switch bilgepump. My ski stays dry.

Haven't seen this. Its not on the website. I would like to update my old one. (btw, if you run a scupper in the flat, just plug it when you go in the surf) As far as I am concerned they are mandatory.

I installed this last night.....cant exacly close it on the fly, but should work well....

I like the old school dual DUCK BILL's.
I have an bottom empty (no foam) lightweight SJ hull and so it is perfect for me.

If you like duck bills you really like Versi Plugs. Similar idea as db's but they don't fall off or dry rot. Check out pwcdoctor.com
