Bilge pump switch/concept for surf

yeah... it really sounds like something worth trying...

On the fuel cap if you fill internally. Glue it or you really could work out a strap if you have an aftermarket filler where the outside edges of the bottom of the cap do not sit flush against a fill flange. Either way it's as removeable as your cap you just gotta leave enough wire to twist it on and will probably need to disconnect the waterline to fill your tank. I guess you'd need to put the overboard above the upside-down waterline. As easily as I sink a ski from it coming up upside down, it'd be worth it to me.

Is there a delay on those automatic bilge switches? If not, they might be a good option too for that one.

if you mount a pump upside down, i.e. for when flipped, where do you put the outlet? Seriously.... will the pump empty a bilge when the outlet is under :Thinkingof_: ?

someone use to sell a little block that you would mont in the hull and it would detect the pressence of water, not a float it had 2 contacts.I have one here somewhere
Here's a new transistorized type of bilge pump switch that runs the pump only when water is present? The switch with the two contacts will shut the pump off at a ¾” height of water. This switch will run eight seconds of delay time allowing for maximum water elimination. It sounds like a good idea especially if you're running TL to save the battery power.

I think its a great idea. I do see Oxnards point as it is something elso to fool with. This is a great idea for the surf. If you don't ride surf its difficult to see how this works. When you get separated from the ski and it gets tumbeled arround it takes on water. The ski will sometimes end up upright but full of water. The pump/lanyard idea is good because the ski will pump water while you are trying to get to it. In the surf this can take a while. The ski can get carried in prettty far.

Thanks for sharing Nick.

I think that w/ the outlet going into the tray (like we all do) the pump will be enough pressure to overpower being just 3-4 inches under water...

it would be very simple to do a mock up and test it w/ a couple buckets...

It would be really cool to make this work

werd bro... that's pretty much exactly what I was thinking

how bout this....The other night I was messing around with bilge pumps....Im ging to run a single rule 360 in the fx-1 right now, and I have the hose hooked up to the stock siphon fitting

with the ski upside down, the pump should be out of the water

the only thing I dont like about it for regular use is that you'd never know if it was pumping water...but for this idea it might be perfect

This does the same thing "Rulemate". It has a little ping pong ball in it and when the ball floats or the ski is upside down it runs. Otherwise it is always off.

It is the PERFECT bilge for all occasions. They make them in 500, 750 and 1100. I currently run the 1100. Rarely kicks on, but is always ready to go and never needs a switch. I have been preaching about these for 7 years now. It makes my ski virtually unsinkable.

Perfect compliment to a scupper. About 55-75 bucks. Last bilge you will ever buy. Even with a stick holding my scupper open it won't sink and best of all, it doesn't need a switch. Just hook it to the battery and go!!!

They are all the same height... I am not sure if it will fit under there or not.

The 1100 uses bigger hose and should have a bigger bilge outlet. If you can fit this in your ski you will not regret it and will never go back to another pump with a switch.

I like his idea, nevermind the safty, automatic factor.....I would just be happy with a switch that would last more than 2 rides in saltwater.....and on an X-2 it would be key because even if your upsidedown, it will rite itself and can be pumping while its circling, etc

How do bilges rob power? :dunno:

I thought about it after someone questioned it... I guess that realy makes no sense at all.... it runs off the batt... duh... it would be usefull for MSD TL for sure though

Meh....I run dual bilges all day with my TL and I still get at least 2-3 tanks out of it.

Then again, I've never tried it without TL.

This old thread talk about an idea I have been thinking about....mounting a bilge pump upside down above the electrical box for when the ski floats upside down in the surf and you are swimming to it while it is filling up with water...for big surf and those with scuppers this could be good insurance...has anyone tried this concept ?
