Well let's think about that a second... If your ski is upside down, the ball would float up toward the bottom of the hull. If your ski is upright, the ball falls toward the bottom of the hull.

So either way the air passage would get blocked. Back to the drawing board.

Spring pressure when the ski is upright and when the ski is upside down the water pressure overcomes the spring tension.

can't we just install one of these in the hood somewhere, connected to an electronic valve that it activates and closes the breather hoses when it detects water? I'm sure it would have to be calibrated so it doesn't activate with small amounts of water though.....

This was hit on before on the four stroke thread,its pretty simple actually,run it off of vacumm using spring loaded flaps.When the engine is running the vacumm overcomes the spring tension and opens the flaps on the air intakes,as soon as the engine stops running the flaps spring closed blocking off water from entering.Cars use vacumm to control all sorts of doors and ducts on the heating and AC systems,simple, reliable and best of all no electronics to get salt water corroded and break.You could also use a vacumm operated switch to work the bilge pump but it would need to be totally sealed or you are back to electronics that break from salt water corrosion again.

I once saw a guy wearing a surf leash riding his superjet .That will keep you from getting seperated.All hands on deck (faces or other body parts) That is comedy!

this one looks like the one to use.
just install it in the hood and run the breather hose(s) off of it and hook the activation leads to a solenoid valve in the breather tube that will close when it detects a set volume of water passing through it.
