Pipe dope!!! If you ran the tap pretty far in it will be a little loose. A 1/8 NPT tap would give tapered, hence the T, threads.
Like previously mentioned, fitting placement is optimal on the opposite side.

Let me look at the 44's (SBN) I have, one may just need a rebuild (I've got the kit to do it too).
Like said before, you will need a spacer for your stock manifold, or an A/M mani. Also, you will need longer bolts for the manifold.
