    A 2.0 is the "one size fits all" needle port. It will allow springs to cover the whole useable spectrum and flow more than the pilot and main jets combined.

    Needle port diameter plays a role because pressurized fuel is trying to push it open. Without fuel pressure we would be concerned with the spring tension only.

    As peviously mentioned, a small wire brush on a Dermel will knock off the dried crud without hurting anything else. Just use slow speed and be careful.

    Those dont look all that bad. Salt water is usually worse but fresh will do the same thing. Your story is all too common and the reason I never buy used carbs and cranks.

    A stock 701 superjet engine will bolt in with the use of a 650lx coupler. Just find a place for the E-box and heat/expand the exhaust hose to fit. BTW the pump wont hold a 701 below the rev limit.

    Look for water and debris in the tank, filter, and carb. Also make sure to check the carbs internal filter basket. It is difficult to hurt a stock compression/pipe 701 unless very poor gas was used.

    Old K&N filters had fiber that will swell and constrict air flow when wet. Now they make flame arrestors for watercraft without fiber in them. Even better find a stock Yamaha 650-701 single carb arrestor, they will bolt on any mikuni 44 and do a better job of keeping water out.

    There is simply no reason for ANY twostroke with a tuned pipe to be loud. They can be quieter than stock without any power loss. The powerboat crowd have no excuses either since they have room for a good muffler. Poor behavior transcends all tax brackets, especially at the lake.

    Adapt an SBN 38 and lean to peak power for best fuel economy. Your 650sx must be set excessively rich because they usually have the longest legs of all skis.

    Do they work well? What is your goal? They take up air space so the pump primes faster, that is why they are useful in white water. They will not do anything for thrust in clear water.

    Idle mixture needs to be rich of peak on the trailer for best response. He needs to get some experience tuning a leaf blower or model airplane engine before moving on to something as costly as a jetski. Better stick with a leaf blower since the model engine can cut your fingers off.

    I have an old Sizzler with no ribs, I once saw a coffmans 550 pipe using a cone that looked the same as my Sizzler but with ribs. Maybe Coffmans consolidated parts between the two before they quit making them.

    Leave nothing to chance, mark the flywheel and use a strobe to see where the timing actually is. The timing should retard to around 16 degrees at high rpm for low octane gas. The cdi marked 3738 is best for older style stators. I never messed with any newer DC ignitions.
