Its the shaft/impeller splines. All Kawasakis do it and 650s are the worst since they tend to wear out faster. It will last a long time in this condition so dont worry about it. A new impeller and shaft is required to properly fix it.

I doubt your engine will hit 7000rpm with a 9-15 hooker, but is should be close. A riva ported cylinder needs to rev more than the contemporary low port setups. Raise the rev limit to 7500 and enjoy all the new found performance.

If all you want to do is hold it wide open all the time use your stock impeller. They are as fast as any aftermarket. Something like a Hooker 9-15 (load is critical) will run within 1-2mph and have much better acceleration.

You have to CAREFULLY cut/splice it in the middle and then notch the hood. There are easier alternatives.

I know that a Westcoast kawi 650 cone will work if the coupler area is shimmed up from 4.5 to 5 inches, I wrapped one with fiberglass and worked for years. An old Seadoo cone would be ideal if they are 5", I never measured one. Using a stock Kawasaki 650 exhaust wont do much for performance...
