    Motor Suggestions for SJ?

x2. if it's torn down anyway try to find the extra $$$ to get some porting doe. You will be blown away at how it wakes up your 701 and this is definitely the time to do it. Mark has suggested some good builders, and I'll throw in TLR who did a really nice job on my 701. You could also look for...

what size staples do you'll use when recovering your seats?

Not sure what length to use (haven't done a Blaster seat myself) but definitely make sure you get stainless staples.

Other soild plaistc 2x4 bunks where to find them ?

Treated pine lasts a really long time and you can add teflon sliders on top to make it slide easily. Just a thought if you can't find what you are looking for.

    Need help with new ski

Be careful there - a compression pressure reading is not the final story on what octane gas to run. Mine runs over 200psi and uses pump gas - it depends a lot on the porting. Measure the dome volume and calculate the compression ratio based on volumes for the correct answer.

    Set up wake questions/variations

Er, actually I think a Kelvin wake goes at 17 degrees. But the cool thing is that any hull puts a wake at the same angle, independent of speed.

    Set up wake questions/variations

The curved wave piles up into a peak at the focus of the turn, but you get two curved waves and therefore two peaks. You can think of that curved wave as lots of little waves launched towards the focus of the turn as you go around the jink. All those can meet since they come from different...

    Set up wake questions/variations

You always get two waves. It gets a lot bigger of you have trim and pull that in the turn, but you can't make two waves from the same hull meet in one peak. The peaking comes from the wave being made as you turn, but you'll always get two.

    Set up wake questions/variations

That's how it woks. You get two waves - pre-hop the first, launch off the second.

    Set up wake questions/variations

Turning left then making a right 180 brings you back to your waves at an oblique angle which is what you want to happen. You need to be hitting them at about 45 degrees with a pre-hop into the trough between the two waves and using the second wave to launch. If you are rolling then the sequence...

    Set up wake questions/variations

You end up crossing your path as you come back in so you can intercept the big waves in the elbow.

    flooding superjet

Fuel will siphon into the engine if there is a path. Your problem is a leaky needle, so that means a new needle and seat. If that is leaking chances are that the rest of the carb(s) could do with some attention too. While you have it apart you may as well do the full rebuild - it's a pain to...

    FX-1 hydroturf underpad

For comfort and safety. When you land from a jump you take a huge jolt through your legs and spine - the more padding the better when that happens. For small jumps it's a matter of comfort, for big jumps it's a matter of safety. Lots of people (including me) use the 25mm underpad and it is well...

Need to replace a small section of foam.

Just reinforce the tray with a layer or two of biax and forget about the foam until you need to replace all of it. (Here's the bad news: if you have one small section that needs replacing chances are it all does, but that can wait till winter.)

    Padding on the tray

That's an important point when padding footholds. Take your time with it to make sure your foot is in there snug, with as much padding on the bottom as you can and a little on top too. But, stand on the ski like you are riding it since the bottom pad will compress under your weight - it's not...

    Oh dang, what just happened

Just to be clear, a lean motor runs hot, and a super lean motor (like one with an air leak) runs super hot. In that condition it's basically a diesel motor - the high pressure and heat alone will cause ignition, no need for a spark at all. That's why it runs away - it's a vicious cycle with the...

    turfing with underpad

Another good tip when working in awkward areas is to use parchment paper to stop the turf sticking in places before you are ready for it to. For example, when turfing deep in the holds sometimes you don't want it to bond around the curve on top of your foot right away. Cut some parchment paper...
