if it is either the bendix or starter which likely it is... the next step you need to make is to ensure you buy OEM, dont buy the cheaper a/m ones, the OEM are more money but worth every cent

I didn't realize you were still waiting for the starter to stop after it disengaged. I thought that was only before you put the spring back in. Definitely bendix then. Try soaking it in gasoline to clean it and then soak it in oil and grease the outside. Is your bendix dull silver or a shiney gold color?

So I put a additional ground cable on my flywheel and what do you know it cranked up. So now I guess my options are to get a new cable or should I run two cables. I may still soak the bendix.

if you dont want to take it apart i used two cables left the bad one still connected and used another ran for one year no problem even in daytona, and at the end of the season i installed a new cable , you can buy the cables at napa or any of your auto stores , when i took apart my bad cable it was black at the connections when i cut it open and had a high resistance, when i bought my first 550 in 1991 it had a bad ground problem a week later the dealership could not figure out the problem i brought the ski home and the ground wire was making a bad connection, grounding problems happen in skis sometimes at least it was a easy problem and wont cost you a lot of money

I recently ran all new power cables.
The b-pipe doesn't like the stock location/routing of the ground cable.
My ground cable was nearly worn thru from the pipe.
Ran the new one up the carb side of the engine compartment. Just a thought.

New OEM or JSS cables only for ground. You can run it where ever you want but it should go to the starter bolt, not anyplace else. If you dont believe me ask anyone from Team Xtreme about VA and FL trips. LOL I always put my cables in protective sleves so they cant get worn or melted by the exh, hull whatever.

First start up...So exciting and frustrating at the same time!

tell me about it. It started so good Saturday, but I couldnt keep it running. the longest it ran was about 30-40 seconds. I hooked up the water hose to break it in and it didnt want to agree with me. One time it started great I ran to the hose , turned on the water, and when I got back to the ski i didnt see any water coming out of the pissers. I didnt see any water accept in the lines connected to the manifold. the weird thing is I didnt see any leaks at all. No water in the hull. The water was coming out of the pump but not the other lines. So I ran took off the water, and push stop. It wouldnt stop! Freaked me out for a second.

Don't try to break in the engine on the hose. The motor needs to have a load on it to properly seal the rings.

you do need to break in the motor under load, but hooking it up to a hose to make sure your going to get more then 30 seconds of run time cant be a bad idea, I was thinking about doing the same...anything to reduce the chance of wrenching on the beach

Certainly - but I wouldn't call that break-in, I'd call it 'checking to make sure it runs before driving my azz to the water'. :lmao:
