The Ski Gremlins have taken over...

So today was the skis 2nd maiden voyage. The first time out my started ended up going after the first time the ski died on me. So today I go out and it runs AMAZING. Better then it ever has. With the new highcompression O ring head and porting it felt alot more snappy.

Well riding for about 5 min. Brap brap brap braauhhhh die. started hard and sounded like it was not going to start. it started and had no power. Now I throttle it a few times and slowly my power had gained back. Full power for a bit.. i would cruise for another 2 min and it would go and poop out on me again... Each time it dies It seems to be WAY easier to start it and clear it out to full potential out of the water on the beach cart. When i put it on the cart, clear all the water out of the exhaust and clear it all up it runs mint... It takes a few braps before the gurgeling motor sounds good.

It almost seems like the waterbox and exhaust fills with too much water but i had not changed my cooling set up or exhaust.

Im not sure at this point because it runs mint for a couple minuites then it wont run good for a little then run good.

some one please help if you have any ideas....

Here is a picture from todays test and tune with it

Test your compression immediately and get back to us on what it is and what gas you're running.

I have no luck latley. Just a very expensive bouy.

compression is at 155psi on this shatty tester.

Originally i thought it was an exhaust leak but it will do it with the hood off as well. every hose clamp i used a nut driver to lock down.

I am pretty confident it is a fuel delivery issue. I took apart the carbs ( i have not rebuilt them since the original owner did 4 years ago . Original dual 38s) The ski started to bog real bad and it almost looked like it stopped sucking fuel. Sprayed some starting flued in to get her to wind up a little. Did exactly what i wanted and then cleared everythign out and ran good for a bit.

Hooked up to the hose it runs great. No hose and it runs even better.

I am running out of new parts to replace on the boat.

I guess the whole main struggle is that it runs SOOOO good for a bit then acts like it wont get fuel. And i will not be able to floor it untill i keep it at idle or a little above for a few min or untill i get it to shore to clear it all out

Mine did the exact same thing my first couple of rides out. It would run perfect and hit hard then nothing. My gremlin was gunk in one of the pilots and it hasn't missed a beat since. The gunk was gelatinized fuel that would move around, I wonder if you don't have something past the jet and the filter in the low speed circuit ducts?

i had the carbs apart to check to see what was inside but im not sure how to look at the jets.. that plunger like piece with the spring that opens and closes had a small clog that looked like hair gel. I blew it out . As for the jets.. if they are under that aluminum plate and are held in by 2 screws.... well the mother effer who was in there last stripped 1 screw of the 2 inside on both carbs...

That's exactly where you need to go! I take a narrow flathead screwdriver and drive it in till I can turn the screw. That "hair gel" gunk is exactly what I was describing. I had JSS go thru my carbs for me and he has a stainless hardware kit he sells to replace those crappy screws with allen head ones, well worth the money.

FECK.... maybe that is my entire issue. I wonder how i will get the stripped screw out :(

I would take a narrow blade flat screwdriver that fits diagonally across the phillips pattern and tap on it until it is imbedded in the head. I had to do this on one of my old carbs and it worked pretty slick. The screws aren't normally corroded or in there that bad, the heads just suck and strip easy.
