Ratchet Hood Latch Setup... Need input

Its mine, just order the ratchets through www.bosuns.com or www.highlandrigging.com The part you want is the S0201-0025 this is the ratchet only.
N0200-0025 is the black webbing
N0200-0025-W is the white webbing
N0200-0025-B is the blue wedding (baby blue not Navy)
S0201-0525 ratchet with hooks ( like the give away’s)
S0224-0025 footman’s loop. Loop can be made at the web end then mounted.

Just tell them how you want the straps. One side both side etc.

If you all can decide on the best method (one model), I will run 10-20 or what ever and sell them at our COST + 10%. I have no idea about SJ hoods so you all figure out what you want. I will do this, as you are all friends to me and do not need to make a buck of ya all, but again you all need to figure out what you want. If this works I will then have Highlandrigging.com stock them and sell it at those prices. They can take all types of payment, as we are wholesale only.Just pick a point person so i don't have to deal with 100's of emails.

If its custom and 1 & 2 I can not do the same deal as above as setup is a killer.

So Bluegtate and I were sitting around last night trying to think of mounting ideas for the ratchet strap.

I ordered the ratchets last night. We're gonna mount them on the dash of the ski. Then we're gonna mount a little one inch bracket on the handle pole bracket itself. We're probably just gonna drill into the handlepole bracket and tap the holes. Here a couple pictures of what we're looking to do up front. These pics are from Mile9c1's F1-Pro build.

I'll keep this thread updated as we develop the system.

I think I have found a pretty good solution to the hood latch/strap issue.
The strap is as wide as a seatbelt and you don't have to mess with any ratcheting mechanism. I also didn't want to mess with any more hood latches and then adding additional straps. I thought about going with ratchets but really didn't like how bulky they were.

I bought a strap that is used to go around a boat as an additional item to secure it to the trailer. I reinforced the tray area it bolts into before mounting it. The latch/hardware portion is up on the hood and under the handlepole so it is out of the way. I added an aluminum ring to the mounting point for a pole limiting strap to hook onto.
I really prefer this to any ratchet solution. Every boat I put together will end up with this instead of a latch.

Hmmmm... Mine are overkill. My hood will never ever ever ever come off.

I am going to ditch the stock latch and just run one. No need for two.

Okay so we got our ratchet strap system all setup for our new hood kits.

We taped some drilled holes onto the waterdawg bracket. We used a 1" footman's loop to hold the strap onto bracket.

We used 1" Suncor brand ratchet straps. At first we were going to weld a plate to the back of the ratchet, in order to utilize the stock 4 mounting holes where the stock hood latch goes. After throwing that idea around for a while, and wasting money on drill bits trying to drill through some 3/16" thick stainless we decided to just drill through the back of the ratchet, and drill two new holes in the fiber glass.

We wanted a little protection from some of the semi thin/sharp edges of the ratchet strap, so we used some "plastic dip" to soften the edges up.

We were going to point the ratchet up, so that we would be pulling down on the ratchet to tighten, but the ratchet wouldn't lock into the final closed position.

All in all, this system seems very strong. Lets hope it holds up. It should. 2ride (Cuong) runs the same setup, and if it it will hold up for that guy, it should last forever for me. Gonna start stepping it up... gonna try me some barrel rolls.
