Okay so we got our ratchet strap system all setup for our new hood kits.
We taped some drilled holes onto the waterdawg bracket. We used a 1" footman's loop to hold the strap onto bracket.
We used 1" Suncor brand ratchet straps. At first we were going to weld a plate to the back of the ratchet, in order to utilize the stock 4 mounting holes where the stock hood latch goes. After throwing that idea around for a while, and wasting money on drill bits trying to drill through some 3/16" thick stainless we decided to just drill through the back of the ratchet, and drill two new holes in the fiber glass.
We wanted a little protection from some of the semi thin/sharp edges of the ratchet strap, so we used some "plastic dip" to soften the edges up.
We were going to point the ratchet up, so that we would be pulling down on the ratchet to tighten, but the ratchet wouldn't lock into the final closed position.
All in all, this system seems very strong. Lets hope it holds up. It should. 2ride (Cuong) runs the same setup, and if it it will hold up for that guy, it should last forever for me. Gonna start stepping it up... gonna try me some barrel rolls.
