I found the Key to Promoting the sport!!!!

Answer = High School

I'm a senior this year and as many of you high schoolers know there are a TON of presentations that you have to do. The past two years almost every presentation I have done has been on jetskiing (mostly revolving around freestyle/freeride). Yes the teachers like to give you certain topics to do them on but I make it a point to talk them into letting me do mine on jetskiing. It isn't hard to talk them into it when you tell them your goal. I take mostly business classes so they don't mind because I relate it to my business, Highroller Customs.

Basically my presentations have sweet video clips (malone at finals,Kenney in surf, Niagara, etc...) and tons of pictures. You have to really show them how fun it is. MOST IMPORTANTLY you have to show them how easy it is to get into the sport and cheap it is. They don't relize that with a stand-up you can just throw it in the back of your truck, that you don't need a trailer. CHEAP!? Yes, CHEAP! You don't have to sell them on a superjet! You can get a 550 now these days for around $200. Just this week I snagged one for $140 off ebay for a kid. And another one for $200 for another. That is CHEAP! You Need to stress CHEAP and EASY. The 550,440 or 650 will be enough to hook them, then they can upgrade.

The best way to promote is to bring a bunch of kids to the lake and give them a lesson and let them ride. (Making sure they are reasponsible) This is usually done after the presentations.

RESULTS PROVE IT WORKS!
Last year:
Sean buys a superjet
Rob buys a 650
Greg bought a 550

This year:
Rob trades his 650 in for a Superjet
Mike buys a Superjet
Kyle buys a 650
Matt buys 550
Kevin buys 550
I have a half dozen other people seriously looking for skis
I have a teacher of mine lookin for a Superjet!

TRY IT, IT WORKS! It would be so easy to make this sport huge again!

If anyone has any older skis they are selling for $500 and under please send me the details at bestwskier@yahoo.com.

Ride hard, put away wet!
I used to do that and my classmates called me jet ski joe and laughed at my sport. Probably laughing out of jealousy though

werd. i tried too. a lot of them are hard core into the motocross deal and were basically like.... what? you can jump with a sea-doo? :banghead:

but whatever you can do to help OUR sport. sweeeeet:Banane01:

Also if a shop has a old ski that they want to get rid of, they should give it to a local youngster. I actually gave Rob his first ski (650) in trade for him helping me in my shop making hulls and parts. Now he is big into it and is buying parts left and right from me and promoting in school. So shops, If you donate a old ski, It may pay itself off 10 times over in the long run!

Nice work Dan, and you are so correct... Youth is always the key to building a sport... got to get them interested early in life. It's not easy w/ so many "action sports" these days... I try to focus on the people that are already interested in watersports...

I have plans to work w/ the Junior Lifeguards this summer promoting PWC safety and they are alloting a couple hrs for all the students to come out and watch me ride in the surf.. Hopefully I can get a few interested that way...

if you need help with that LMK, I MIGHT be able to score some local sponsorship with Dr. Brink & Assoc

prolly be fun too!!!!!:cheer:

its harder here in northern maine... i'm also a senior, but most of the guys here really want to buy a pick-up more than anything, so its hard to get them to buy anything else... also i have friends dropping 2 grand a year on skiing equipment, so its hard to get them to convert to somethign else that is pretty expensive in the summer.... i have 3 people right now seriously interested in buying a ski, so im looking for cheap 550's like highroller mentioned for them, but it ends up being 4oo dollars shipping...its a hard sale, but im trying as well

Nice work Dan!

I went to the local river yesterday to test out some new changes I made recently to the ski. I went out the first time and rode around, as I was coming in, 2 kids that looked about 13y.o. pulled up on a golf cart. (I hate golf carts on the streets).
They said the ski looked cool, I told them how fun it was and how hard it is to get hurt on water compated to motorcycles, etc. They stood on the public dock getting EATEN alive by bugs waiting for me to go back out. So, I went back out and did a couple of deep subs for them, and then they thought that was really cool. They asked if it was scary, if it hurt, etc.
They asked how much one like mine is and I lied & said about $1500 or so. They said that's not bad. I figured if the parents have golf carts for them to ride aroud in, they can afford a $1500 ski.

Then there was another guy, still in his work suit, that walked out onto his dock to wave me farther out.
