I found the Key to Promoting the sport!!!!
Answer = High School
I'm a senior this year and as many of you high schoolers know there are a TON of presentations that you have to do. The past two years almost every presentation I have done has been on jetskiing (mostly revolving around freestyle/freeride). Yes the teachers like to give you certain topics to do them on but I make it a point to talk them into letting me do mine on jetskiing. It isn't hard to talk them into it when you tell them your goal. I take mostly business classes so they don't mind because I relate it to my business, Highroller Customs.
Basically my presentations have sweet video clips (malone at finals,Kenney in surf, Niagara, etc...) and tons of pictures. You have to really show them how fun it is. MOST IMPORTANTLY you have to show them how easy it is to get into the sport and cheap it is. They don't relize that with a stand-up you can just throw it in the back of your truck, that you don't need a trailer. CHEAP!? Yes, CHEAP! You don't have to sell them on a superjet! You can get a 550 now these days for around $200. Just this week I snagged one for $140 off ebay for a kid. And another one for $200 for another. That is CHEAP! You Need to stress CHEAP and EASY. The 550,440 or 650 will be enough to hook them, then they can upgrade.
The best way to promote is to bring a bunch of kids to the lake and give them a lesson and let them ride. (Making sure they are reasponsible) This is usually done after the presentations.
RESULTS PROVE IT WORKS!
Last year:
Sean buys a superjet
Rob buys a 650
Greg bought a 550
This year:
Rob trades his 650 in for a Superjet
Mike buys a Superjet
Kyle buys a 650
Matt buys 550
Kevin buys 550
I have a half dozen other people seriously looking for skis
I have a teacher of mine lookin for a Superjet!
TRY IT, IT WORKS! It would be so easy to make this sport huge again!
If anyone has any older skis they are selling for $500 and under please send me the details at bestwskier@yahoo.com.
