loud skis

The Daytona thread got me to thinking about this.

The loudest ski I have heard was Bogart's white ski at the 2006 Riot Ride at Lanier. He was riding when we pulled into the campground and it was insane how loud/annoying it was.

Riverrat had a Powerfactor pipe on his ski last year and it was loud, but not that level.

I have a Jetcraft silencer on mine with right-side exhaust and it's quite a bit louder than it used to be because I'm using aluminum tubing for most of my exhaust now where it used to be rubber hose. When it was rear exhaust/rubber tubing it had a very throaty sound, but very muffled also more like a stock Corvette or something. (Changing this is part of my winter plans anyway, so if I do go to Daytona it will be quieter than it currently is.)

Anyway, that thread reminded me of what happened back in 97 I think when I went to western Kentucky to run buoys with 2 brothers. I had a SXi with 11-19 and 76mm nozzle and a pipe/44's/etc and one of them had a SX with single 46, 8-16 and 80mm nozzle, but with no waterbox, just a 90 degree bend where the waterbox would have been.

I had a good 3mph on him but turning buoys it was more on the rider so we were pretty even. (I sucked) I took a break and some redneck walks up to me and says something to the effect of "wow listen to how fast that ski is!". I said something about being faster and he didn't hear a word and turned around and yelled up to a buddy "listen to how fast it is!".

Unreal. Just because it's loud doesn't mean it's powerful.

Reminds of around here.. There are maybe 10 kids with their 4440's/550's with no water boxes and you know how high pitch annoying those can be.

Its ridiculous, its loud a hell, and they are going "really slow in a straight line" lol Maybe 30mph tops..

My friends and I just start yelling :aargh4: "get a waterbox".

PowerFactor is the best sounding exhaust EVER - period.

It is loud, but a nice tolerable loud.

Nothing more annoying then a 550 or 750 with no waterbox... yuck.

when I was a kid I bought only the fast shoes. I would test em right in the aisle at K-mart.:jester:

How will the sound levels be tested? some that are borderline- are they in or out? I am in favor of tolerable levels of noise, but am just curious how this will be decided. decibel meter?

There is no reason for a piped twostroke to be loud. I don't know if "Jetskiers" are attention starved or just A-holes, either way most are obnoxious.

I'll take a couple rice burning homo's with loud exhausts over a bunch of Harley's cruising by at 30 mph setting off all the car alarms. The cops pull over the rice burners but a truck with glass packs and a harley make just as much if not more noise and the cops do nothing. I think they're all obnoxious and completely unnecessary but if one gets ticketed, they should all be ticketed. It's the same with those suped up jet boats. No one cares about those but the jet ski's take the rap for noise.... Discrimination at its best!

my banshee has twin stock pipes and it is very quiet, my buddy has A/M twin pipes and it is alot louder, and alot faster. my ski is loud but it also rips pretty good so i tolerate the noise. loud pipes make power. just comes with the territory.

completely unnecassary??? try and ride a bike without a loud pipe bro! i got my new gsxr and rode it for three day's with the stock can, i almost got ran over about 6 times.. thats the reason for a loud pipe on a bike, now what was the point of the one on the rice burner agan???

D-roc your ski does ripp but i think you got a bit more going on then just a loud pipe

i know i know but i was trying to get the point across that to make power most motors do get louder. now, i have riden somethings that make more noise than anything. and my honda crx ran faster when it had a tuned exhaust than with a crappy fart tube on it. anything that is really fast is usually really loud, streetbikes, drag cars, monster trucks, jets, etc. i really don't like how loud my ski is with the xmetal box and 2 1/2" exhaust but i noticed some power increase so i am keeping it.

lol, i have bad hearing and spelling, so i am screwed. i think if i had a bigger motor it would not be so bad, the BB motors i have heard always have a deep growl vs a motor like mine. i have a ported 735cc at 190lbs and its pinger. where we ride it has never been a problem. everything else that is fast with a motor gets to make noise so why can't we? it usually only a couple hours a few times a week.
