Kommander Industries BOB Build Thread....

Headed back to Kommander Ind with the hull tomorrow morning. Hopefully will have this sorted out by Saturday. I thought we had a donor ski lined up last time but that fell through. Probably for the best though. This boat will now be getting some fresh 09 guts put in it along with a version of the 760 setup I have been running for a couple of years now in all my boats.

Should be good times...lots of pics to come over the next few days.

Thanks...your boat looks awesome!

I almost went with Orange...most all of my boats have had some kind of orange in them. Things are progressing nicely...will get some pics up this evening.

Bobbie has been fired up...now I'm all fired up also.

Still waiting on some parts, but we are going to be able to do a little lake test tomorrow. I've got lots of pics of the whole process...and will do my best to get them hosted and posted here quickly. We just have lots of stuff going on right now in addition to Bobbie...

I'm pretty pumped though...

No paint on this one. Just a graphic kit, should be done this week.

Uploading some build pics now, and will post them up in a few days along with a little description of some of what we did.
I've got a couple of flat water days and three days testing in the surf so far. I'm going to hold off on giving any kind of review for at least on more ride, and I need to talk to the Ski Clinic guys first also.

I will say that it does what it was designed to do very well...which is flip easily.

Because the intake tract is lengthened on our particular hull, we had to custom make an 2" longer intake grate. We are using a WORX grate that we lengthened in the front.

After riding the test boat at Parker, I wanted to do what I could to get a more neutral wight bias in the boat. So the guys at the Ski Clinic were nice enough to accommodate me by moving the internal components as far forward as possible. But as a result, we had to lengthen the exhaust hose as well.

Our beautiful Cold Fusion coupler, and the extension collar that Kommander made. In this shot you can also see the electrical box mount that Mr. Webster made. It makes for a very clean install of the EBox. We put it on the inside of the foothold and would still have plenty of room for it there with the motor in the back position.

<a href="http://img341.imageshack.us/i/1009817.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/9873/1009817.th.jpg" border="0"/></a>
We also have the motor moved 2" forward of the normal position as well. The Ski Clinic guys gave us the option of running the motor in the stock position as well as forward location. But that necessitated we make some extension collars for the couplers. It is a shame that these beautiful couplers will be hidden under the coupler cover...

The Kommander wired up the electric bilge pump using the over heat sensor wires since we are not running a sensor.

We mounted the bilge switch inside the hull. I didn't want to put another hole through the dash to mount the switch for a few reasons. We are already using the dash to mount the ratchet strap and my handle pole limiter rope and both of those will put lots of stress on that area of the hull. And I would have to say that this area is a little thin. I also have a history of breaking the dash and bulkhead areas where switches are located. In the next round of pictures I will show the backing plates I made for the limiter rope and ratchet strap mounts.

Another Cold Fusion work of art. This one is designed for the Odyssey battery and works great for that. However our Odyssey did not...no problem though. The cage will double as a box that you can use regular straps with. Also I think I wound up running a YTX20LBS (not sure...have to check) in there and it fits great with some shorter bolts. Again I will show that when I post the final product pics. This is a super high quality piece.

Another shot of the battery cage along with the internal filler cap. The fuel filler is a great piece as well.

The original air intakes on the hood are really small. I think they designed the hull to breathe through the pole. But the bracket I had only had a single breather hole in it, and the UMI pole on the boat now is not really set up to be able to run lots of air down. So I put a hole in the hood and covered it with a FrogSkinz.

I wound up putting two holes in the hood to help it breathe. I'm stoked on the FrogSkinz so far.

I'm still waiting on the graphics for the boat, and I may just sticker it and call it good.

But either way I will get some completed pics and put them up soon with more build descriptions.

At this point I have 6 rides in the surf on this hull. And conditions have varied from 2 foot slop to solid 10+ foot faces and really fun playful head high surf.

I'm going to hold off on giving a review on how the hull works for another little bit. But I will say the hull itself has taken some pretty decent abuse and held up well. The hood is another story. It broke very quickly, but when I talked to the guys about it they said they were aware it was a problem and have corrected it with subsequent hoods. I talked with Derrick about the hull and the broken hood. And I think he said they would take care of it for me...but I need to call him again to sort that out.

looking good. I like that battery box. Also curious as to how the frogs skins hold up to your riding!!

So far so good. I'm pretty happy with them. They are in a location that does not get a lot of direct impact from the water, and I don't seem to have much of an issue with water getting in the hull.

" I'm stoked on the FrogSkinz so far. "

Are theses some type of hydrophobic membrane or just screens with fine mesh ? They could solve a few problems for me if they work. Anybody else use them ?
