Awesome...if they have a GP760 specific template, the port width will be better than a 701 template (though I go wider than they suggest anyhow)

What type of cutters are you guys using to do all this? I have looked at McMaster and they have double cut, single cut, and specific non-ferrous rotary files available. Or are you just using sanding drums?

I have some casework and pumpwork I would like to do but I need a little help with the bit part. Also the diameter that is best/easiest.

Thanks

I use a Dremel...I imagine there are better tools out there.
If you go my route, you need a flex shaft and a 90 degree attachment.
I started out with Sanding drums and grind stones.

After having done a few cyl's, I now use tungsten carbide cutters of various sizes and shapes on the aluminum casting. They are strong enough to use on the steel sleeve, too, but I am too faint of heart.
Instead, I use sanding bands of various grits and sizes for the sleeve, then move to the tungsten carbide, do some finish work with either grind stones (WAX THEM!) or sanding bands.

Keep in mind that I am a total amateur.

No...there's the one of yours in my garage, and the one still in your garage.

I have two to port as well. . . The one in my ski and the one in my garage. When do they fit in? Early would be my guess. Maybe even first:arms: :cheer:

I do not repitch the roof angles. The stock Yamaha port angle config seems to be great for low end. I confess, I don't know enough about it to mess with it.
On my current personal cylinder, I did make the transfer port windows themselves quite a bit wider.
In fact, my personal cylinder is ported way beyond what the Sport Port does. I have ported my cases, as well.
Nice setup. Hits great.
I have seen the dropped boost ports a few times, but have not done that yet. I understand that it promotes cooling of the piston from below (this is in conjunction with boost ports in the piston skirt).
I did some research on this and found nothing conclusive for performance gains here - I think it's done mostly for reliability, added lubrication and cooling.

I will let you know pretty soon what it has or has not effected. I will take some pics of cylender and piston and send them to you before assemble. Let me know what ya think.

isnt kawi specific porting different than yamis? I was under the impression you cant port them the same?!

Very true. However, basic principles of porting apply across the board. I'll see what I can do (and hopefully post pics).

Cool...sounds good.

I've looked at some stuff online. I plan on getting some porting diagrams for the kawi 650 before I put the ski up for the short winters nap. I'll be sure to get some pics posted after I get it done and to let you all know how it turns out.

I was thinking about doing some porting on the wifes 650sx and had seen a few blips in threads about kawi low end being "all in the porting" Just something to think about before jeremys gets the dremel treatment. Ive gotta look into those carbide bits as well. Also where did you get a 90 attachment for the flex line?

As far as I know, there is no 90 for the flex shaft.
It goes directly on the dremel.

Come one come all. We'll see how the 650 Kawa cylinders go, and maybe we want to give yours a shot?

I just got the new sport port myself. Im pretty new to stand up jetskiing and ive got a 96 sj. I was wondering how to go about porting my cases. Ive got the sport port coming for the cylinders so im not too worried about those but im not sure how to go about porting the cases. Ive got the 61x cases still and 61x cylinders. Any one know how to go about porting the cases? Also whats the best carbs to use on a budget. Ive still got the stock 38's on there with ocean pro arrestors. B-pipe and a riva head with 35cc domes. I plan on getting an MSD enhancer v-force 2's and 12/17 skat. Am i going in the right direction?

welcome to the site.

if you have stock cases with 38's you don't have 61x cases. you have 62t cases . all round nose sj's come with 62t cases.

there are some threads showing where to port/epoxy cases around you have to search for them though. there are people who get 38 to work well but there are a wide range of opinions there to.

Why does the 96 have 61X cases, should have 62T cases and if you have twin 38's it probably is 62T cases. Never ported cases, but should be as easy as setting top half of cases on upside down on ported cylender and marking where to take some out. Just be sure not to go too far as they are thin walled compared to Kawi cases.

Oh, I dont know what im talking about with cases then. Must be 62t. Is porting the cases going to make a big difference? I figured id just do it since ive got it all torn apart anyhow.

I think that porting 62T cases will make a difference. Do a search....youll find all the info you need about porting 62T cases

Porting 62T cases makes a noticable difference, and it isn't too hard. Do a search...I believe my comprehensive porting thread covers that.
Should be in the Tech Faq under Porting 101, 102, 103 or something like that.

A crucial thing about porting 62T cases: You HAVE to fill the voids on the top with epoxy, because porting will remove material from the bottom.
