Anyone using only hood straps, with no latch or hood hooks?

Could you get the hood even and tight all the way around?

In a situation where I may need to do this.............

people are using the single "brap strap" that blowison sells. this replaces the hood latch, i belive you still use ur hood hooks tho.

After sinking my ski twice, I got rid of my hood latch and made my own a stainless steel ratchet strap (A.K.A. Brap Strap) to hold down the hood and it's been rock solid ever since. I absolutely love it and will never go back to a latch ever again.

I’m not trying to be a hater but I’ve never been a fan of the “Brap Strap”. The concept never made to much sense to me, the strap holds your hood down super tight but how does it keep your hood from shifting sideways? The hood shifting sideways and breaking the seal to let water in was always my main concern. I needed something West Coast surf solid so I went a different route. I glassed rails around my engine compartment lip. I use two rubber bungees for hood straps that pull in opposing directions. Rubber bungees are cheap and easy to hook up, not like some pain in the a$$ ratchet system. I still have the stock hood latch but it pretty much does nothing and is unlatched half of the time. Since I went to this system I have never lost or had my hood shift, even after landing sideways or pitching my ski in the biggest surf

The ratchet can hold the hood down so tight that it won't move off the seal. If you want to run without hooks, just add a narrow retainer loop on the front of your hood for the strap to go through. Then the hood can't move side to side any farther than the strap.

My hood will not move ANY direction with just a ratchet strap in the back.

Thats because SXR's come stock with a lip around the engine compartment, SJ's don't. I got the idea from my SXR, and like I said I needed something "West Coast Surf" strong. If you ride flat you should be fine with a Brap Strap

i run just the brap strap/hood hooks and its been great to me. every once in a while my hood gets pushed to the side a little if i land directly on the hood, never had my ski sink because of attachment failure. west coast tested

I run a homemade brap strap w/o hood hooks. No problems with shifting or anything and I'm not even running a stock hood seal. Just a piece of foam bulb seal around the hood lip. The strap will seal it down tight and the groove that the hood sits in will keep it in place.

I came down on it sideways hard enough to split my hull open this weekend and the hood didn't budge. Pics in my sig.

I have a brap strap setup that I use with a different strap (Same concept, just material I liked better) and it works fine. No hooks or latch.

Yeah I've never had my sink ski either when my hood shifted while running just straps but I have wasted a few sets of front hood hooks and pretty much trashed my hood itself. Stopping the shift was my main goal, besides it wasn't that hard to glass up that lip
