Surfriding blast from the past..

Checking my surf-riding credentials....lol

Straps are okay, but not footholds.
Handling Mods are okay to bolt on, but only stock hulls are allowed.
As for those stock hulls, old kawi and SJ hulls are surf worthy, but not SXR hulls.
Motor mods are okay, but only to a point, nothing over 771cc...
Scuppers are banned from surf, but not bilgepumps.
Bpipes are okay, but not Powerfactor...

do I have it right, yet?

You know what I like about all these criteria? The allowed surf stuff is cheaper! Im going by who ever is saying that for a surf ski build!

Personally I like my straps, I have a hull with holds and it feels weird, but since i never rode with holds its probably a getting used to thing, or the holds arnt great.

I actually only use my right hold and a left strap...I have a wide stance.

Actually, to be fair, you don't need much as far as power in West Coast waves. They are SO HUGE and SO FAR apart and have so much more power....it's completely different from what we ride in anywhere else. A crappy day there is the best day we would ever get. I need to get out there again with my own ski...for like a week straight.

I've tried every setup. I hate foot straps. IMO they're about 10% better than the fruit boot footholds. Any set up that locks you in and limits you from moving your feet around in the tray just holds you back. All around footholds is the money setup. BTW Nice pics, whatever there stance is!

you can easily move your feet around in and out of the straps..but when you are going for a big move your feet are always in the same place so why not be locked in?

my theory is run what the best guys run and taylor and joe kenny are/were the best and footstraps seem to work/worked well for them...

i was lucky enough to learn to ride from taylor and when he told me to put footstraps in my ski i did and my riding improved drastically...unfortunatley most people like to learn things the hard way...

maybe when i see guys running front and rear footholds hitting the lip with the ski past 90deg and airdropping 10ft into the flats ill change my mind but until then i stand by my opinion..

Ross has not ran footholds for about two years. His set up is a flat deck with 4 straps.

u have to land back in the wave for it to be a reentry chief..

i did see u do 2 nice turns (one being the one in the pic) and a good reentry attempt that u almost landed out there though..gotta give u some credit..
