Use a hair dryer, and get rid of the heat gun. Your Wife/Mum/Sister/Girlfriend might kill you, but it has plenty of heat to soften the turf for working.

Cut the u-shaped piece and had it re-welded. Penguin hooked me up from a post here. It was made by KG Industries, but I'm not sure if they make them anymore. From memory, it was 17" wide and made for a 1 seat PWC.
