you need to adjust the tumblers on the cable ends. start with disconnecting the steering nozzle tumbler. make sure the turn plate is hitting the stops (left and right) and isnt stressing the cable in either extreme. you may have to adjust the upper tumbler to keep the cable stress free. once...

put each piston at TDC. then with your fingertips, wiggle it to and fro from the left side of the engine to the right. if you feel the piston-to-cylinder clearance on both pistons, the rings arent bound on the pins.
