I've used OEM gaskets with JSS ski grease with great success. No water intrusion. And just as Matt said, it is very important to grease up the starter where it enters the cases and the stator wire grommet. It doesn't hurt to replace the o-ring on the front of the starter also.

I'm not certain, but it seems that there is some wiggle room when just using bolts, where as the dowel pins allow the location of the cover to be installed with a higher degree of accuracy. :dunno:
I had the same problem when I first got my aftermarket hood. I had to ensure that the back of the hood (near hood latch) would not fold down the hood seal.
After a while it just stopped being a problem.

I sent my whole electrical system out to JSS over 2.5 years ago. I ride 100% surf. My stuff is still rock solid.
About every six months I do have to take the green button of the S/S switch apart to clean the contacts. The contacts in the green switch were never a problem prior to having JSS...
