toasted. Rod bearing parted. piston ruined, cylinder needs help. Crank bearings all gritty too...
Rebuild crank and if so, how much and who ? Don't want to go sbt route.
Already took the head off, hard to turn without it on.... piston sloppy up and down like the wrist pin is toast. I'll know more when I take the jug off tonight and also check on the relay
I'm led to believe it is starter overload that started this all, not sure what happened inside the motor yet, but turning it over at the coupling shaft proved to be very difficult. Will have to check out relay, (which was brand new mid summer). Couldn't a fuse be put inline of the relay to avoid...
Thoughts on a melted ground cable from battery to engine ? FX-1, went to crank it, turned a few times then i watched my ground go up in smoke after taking the hood off. Promptly ran for a screw driver and removed it from battery. Positive lead to the starter looks to be smoked pretty good too...
Problem continues. Rebuilt top end of ski w/ bore and new pistons and went for a test ride yesterday. I know all the water passages are 100% clear. Engine was at about the right temp when it failed to run well, so doesn't seem to he a hot issue.
Talking with a knowledgeable someone the other...
Does that work for you on the side with the needle bearing ? As fate would have it I tapped on it a little too agressively with a punch and broke a small chunk off the "cap" closest to the bendix side of the starter... Anyone have a junk one around that they want to part with ? Who dare I ask...
Reporting back.. Ebay kit seems to be up to par, they sent all the correct parts and no extras. You'll want to pay attention when taking it apart as to how it was together, a few pieces dislodged themselves on me, but no big deal to rebuild.
The question of the day is, how does one get the...
JSS no longer selling.
Found an ebay kit going to give it a try :

Can the oem starters be rebuilt? The local alternator shop says $150 to have mine rebuilt, I told them no thanks.
Starter still works fine, the bearings (or are they bushings) just sound really dry.
Thx for the link.
Looking for stainless vs chromed... Are JM's stainless ? As mentioned, would be just as happy with stainless teflon lock nut vs acorn.
Looking for a stainless solution to the ADA chromed acorn nut for their girdled head. Mine are rusty, new ones are $$$. Would be happy with just a stainless locknut, but can't find one with the thread pitch required. Acorn nut would be acceptable too. McMastercarr I struck out on too. Thoughts...
By pass is your typical out the head pipe and back into the end of the stinger with a pisser over the side. Don't have pics because it's all torn apart at the moment. I do recall the flow out the pisser was pretty slow (its an old ski, haha)
The 90 elbow(s) might be worth checking...

I have a friends 650sx that I offered to repair for him, I cannot for the life of me get it to run well for more than about 20 minutes before it gets hot and boils the fuel out of it. Did a leak down test, checked all the cooling lines, etc and nothing obvious pointed itself out.
Tonight I...
