Definitely need to lose that stock prop. Any stainless prop would be better to start with until you can get the $$ for a skat swirl. You'll need a spline tool and then remove the tail cone and you'll see a flat ended shaft you can put in a vise to hold the shaft.
A pole from the newer Superjets (2008+) is same as FX-1 and will bolt right up. Taylor Curtis (TCurtis) just had one in the for sale section for $100. I have the purple plastic piece I would give you for free, but shipping would probably be more than it's worth.....we just remove them.
Luv the old school Watkins vid! I think riding with a small sketchy hull and virtually no power made you ride smooth and maintain momentum. I remember riding my 440 superstock and doing just about everything I can do today with sooo much less power.
First ride....(in 1976!)....heard about these things called Jetskis and then heard someone was renting them a couple towns away. Jumped in my friends boat and drove to the rental (couldn't drive a car, still in 8th grade!). Rented a 1976 400 for an hour and never got to where I could stand up...
Yeah, I like wide tubbies and skinny rails. I've ridden several skis with the wide rails and it's just not for me. It feels like a put training wheels and a nice high end mountain bike. My tubbies transition right at the center of gravity of the ski and it makes it handle very neutral and...
maybe a dumb question, but did you loosen or remove the drain screw at teh bottom of the fuel tank vent trap? If not, it may be full of water and you're sucking water into the tank. I've always removed the drain screw on skis with the trap and on mine I remove the whole trap.
Sounds like exhaust leak or maybe temp sensor.overheat condition. How long after it starts running poorly do you have to wait before it will run good again for a bit? If it's a short time (1 - 5 mins), I'd say exhaust leak. If longer, then maybe a temp issue.
Are you sure all cooling lines...
FX-1 with widened tray area, big pump, exact copy of stock hood (with plenum. tubes), tubbies (large). No rail mods....keep them narrow and keep the hull a carving hull, not a sheet of plywood (too stable).
