550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

The best way to learn I think is to hands on DO IT. The information is out there, all you have to do is search. Remember, we are all built the same, arms legs, hands, brain...........If one guy can do it, you can too!

550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

Thanks. I tend to do any project I take on like it's my own......and I just can't stand the rushed final product look. That's why this is the "All or Nothing" build. If you're going to spend time and money anyway...........do it ALL or just don't do anything!

    Securing 2x4 to trailer frame

If you just cut off some 1" sections of 1 1/2" angle steel......you can weld them directly to the frame where the bunks will be. Drill holes in the new brackets, run lag bolts up into the 2x4 from the bottom. Piece of cake!

    Driveline Pump Help Needed

OK........there's your problem. The coupler shaft is PRESSED into the intermediate housing bearing. NOT floating back and forth. Time to rebuild/replace your intermediate/coupler assembly.

    Driveline Pump Help Needed

R@R on pump and/or driveshaft should not have changed coupler shaft to engine dimension at all.

550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

Very sad day for us. We had to put our put our dog Jack to sleep this morning. He was almost 16 and pretty much the picture of health. All at once he didn't want to eat or even walk around the house. Wife stayed up holding him all night. He was breathing fast but otherwise seemed alert. Took...

Brought to you by a SeaDoo Spark

Damn! I don't know you or your buddy but I hope he makes a solid recovery. That damage to the side looks like your buddy probably had surgery, pins, plate,......all that stuff you never want to go through.

550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

I got some work in after dinner again tonight. Most or maybe all, of the low spots are faired in. You'll see little pieces of tape everywhere. If you find all these spots BEFORE you mix up the fairing epoxy, you'll be able to go around and wipe them BEFORE it starts flashing off on you. I've...

    Driveshaft straightening 101

If they're bent very bad at all....you'll feel the vibration. On the couches the vibration is in the handlebars and footwells. On a standup, you'll feel it in the tray.

Argh!! I've just had so much going on......... Anyway, finished up the 220 block sanding on the hull bottom today. A few little spots will need touched up but overall I'm VERY pleased with how straight it's turning out.

    Driveshaft straightening 101

On the couches people have a tendency to float over the tube rope. The pump of course sucks it right up. Sometimes, they float over it, then stab the throttle. The rope wads up around the driveshaft very quickly then BAM......stops and bends the shaft. Done this MANY times over the years, never...

    Driveshaft straightening 101

Getting real close now, less than .003" runout along the whole thing. A lot of times when you get this close, you can just support the shaft on wooden blocks and tap down the shaft with a hammer. Without a press you can use this method to beat the whole thing back into straight........but the...

    Driveshaft straightening 101

In this pic you can see 2 sets of marks. You can also see they are NOT on the same line anymore. The lower numbers were after I pressed it on the higher points. This commonly happens cause the shaft was rotating when it bent.....and it also got crooked off to one side. Not a big deal at all...

    Driveshaft straightening 101

Now back into the V-blocks (or Lego fixture LOL) for measuring. Yep we're making progress. If you didn't make any progress, press to deflect the shaft a tiny bit more and try again. Just keep going like this a bit at a time. You can use a shot of carb cleaner on a rag to wipe the previous...

    Driveshaft straightening 101

Here is the shaft getting pressure in the area with the MOST runout facing the press point. DO NOT overdo this. Just put enough pressure to see the shaft deflect, then tap (not smack) along the shaft with a small hammer. That helps relieve the stress in the metal and bring it back into shape. I...

    Driveshaft straightening 101

Quick and easy method to straighten out a bent driveshaft. You'll need a set of V-blocks, a dial indicator with holding fixture, and a press. BUT.....I've done this in the past using Lego's as V-blocks, dial indicator clamped to a block of wood, and a big brass hammer as the press. Hey, you work...
