We accidentally discovered this too. The small diameter couplers are far enough from the bottom of the hull that they don't present the same problems with splashing as the stock couplers do.

More affordable = buy some 701 pistons and a 633 sport port template. Port the cylinders and then get it bored to match the 701 pistons. Get the head milled or buy an aftermarket head. We did this to one about 3 years ago. Great running ski.
Looks like rev 1 to me. And yes, that is how awesome they fit. They tend to touch hulls and break brackets. The weld marks are repairs to the cracked chamber. On ours the repair welds never held long and a patch was the only solution.

Could also be the one-way valve on the gas tank (not allowing air in to replace the burnt up fuel eventually creates a vacuum in the tank) or the small filters inside the carburetors. Both have cause similar issues on some of our skis.
