96 Superjet rebuild - turfed pics up

love the tray!

That cleat look really trick. I am re-turfing right now and I may have to "borrow" that idea.

I love it. Haven't uesd it, but I think it will be great. The ski I saw it on had the best of the best on it, I'm sure he wouldn't have been using it if it didn't work.

i love the tray , you are a sharp young man , your x2 seat was different ,now your rn tray is different , i love the two different turf colors
Thanks Mario! I appreciate it. Your going to have to take it out in Daytona, I think you'll like it!

Couple pics of the rails. Still have to do some trimming and sand the edges down smooth, but you get idea. Camera makes the pink look really pale, like it probably will in a couple weeks in the sun. I'm going to scotch-guard the bejesus out of the pink turf regularly, maybe it will last a season.

Here is a pic of the cam-cleat. This thing is bad-ass. I got the idea from Sharky's ski at the Surf Slam. It is VERY strong. I can pick up the back end of the ski with this little rope, no slipping. Great thing is, you can set it up for the tallest height you want, and easily adjust it to stay lower any time without cutting/changing anything at all.

That is Bad ass.....I have been thinking about a way to have an adjustable limiting rope too, to force myself to stay down for tricks.... and this is it.....you nailed it!

Your ski is looking great.....good job man!

dumb Q? Y not paint firts?

Nah, not a dumb question at all man, I was waiting for it, lol. From the very start I had zero intention of making the paint/body work look good. It was SOO rough, and I absolutely hate sanding/finishing worse than any other task. Id rather defoam two ski's than slick one hull, at least one in this condition.
The last ski I built myself, the X2, I painted first. Had the same intentions there, wanted the turf to outlast the paint, as the paint can be re applied any time with the rattle can. Ended up cleaning overspray off the turf areas, and still a lot of turf came up where I didn't get it all off. I decided this time, since I had to tape off the areas to be turfed anyway just to go ahead and strip the hull down to nothing and turf it, then spray bomb the space between. My turf should hold well now, and I'll have no trouble spray bombing the rest. And I also didn't know if I had this week off to finish my ski before Daytona, and I needed turf way before paint, lol. I figured I don't care to take it rough and bare, as long as it's soft and comfortable to ride. :439:

Got a little more done last night, getting closer. Also glassed in my hood liner on the WDK diablo hood I have, it was completely loose. Should be very solid now. I'll be painting it today, and finishing up a bunch of other loose ends on it.

Turf looks nice but why no padding under your feet, I think that is where you need it?

Mark44

Thanks! I had planned to make the footholds tall enough to fit the 26mm pad. Once it was all glassed and ready for turf I had to take it down a little. It still has probably 2/3" of padding plus turf, it's still nice and soft. I'll be riding surf stance most anyway, got some straps on the way.

Here's a couple shots of the limiting rope/cam cleat setup in action. I love this thing. I can adjust it in a couple seconds to any height. Heres one of it almost maxed out, and one held low. Last pic is how I mounted the hood straps/bungee.
Now I need to scuff this old hood off, shoot a little appliance epoxy on it, and turf it. Should be damn near ready for Daytona. Only a couple more little tweaks left.

Are you gonna run hood hooks with the strap? You just want me to bring the written notarized bill of sale to Daytona?

I see they are as big of a holes down there as they are up here.
