Help: sometimes ski won't crank

I have a rn sj. Ebox is stock wtb med enhancer. Ski has jss stator and wiring. Jss start/stop yamaha switch and wiring. I've checked the switch and it is good.

The problem is 2 weeks ago I was riding then the ski began to shutter and run horrible. Shutdown and it wouldn't crank. Relay wouldn't even click, checked the fuze and it is good. Take ebx apart when I get home un plug everything And check all wires it looked good so put back together hit the start button And it fired up.

Sat went to ride get ready to put in. Hit start button It fired and sounded like it was missing shut it down and changed plugs then hit start again and NOTHING again. My battery + bolt is rusty but the wire is rust free. What can I check? Is the mad going bad ? Thanks

At this point, I'm guessing. :)

Check the continuity of the wires. U may have a break.

Can you short out 2 wires on the SJ like you can on Kawis to test the starter? That'd be the next thing I'd test.

Of course, assuming you've already tested the battery...

I've checked continuity from switch all the wayinside the ebox. Battery is good. I'm guessing somethin in the box is going out since it started misfirng. But will try to jump the relay

The symptoms sound to me more like a loose connection then a blown component.

Have you had water in the ebox? Normally stuff in the ebox doesn't go bad.

U checked the wires and plugs between the engine and ebox?

I have read that the yamaha's will act really screwey when there is a bad ground, I would check that first. A bad ground would explain intermittent starting and I also read on here that engine running rough was another symptom. just jumper another ground source from battery to engine for testing. Good Luck.

bad ground install another cable from ground on battery to any bolt on flywhell cover , it could be a bad switch they are the black and white connections going to e box next time it wont start just disconnect the black and white wires from the switch that go to e box, and see if it fires

so, I had a bad spot in one of the green colored stator wires. Also put a stainless. Bolt on the battery wires to get rid of the resty ones. It starts and rev's like it should for now. Is It possible that was the problem ?

When your switch went bad, what happened with the ski while it was running? Or did it just not start back?

my switch would start my ski but when the lanyard came off the switch my ski would keep running. IT freaked me out the first time it happened. I could see my ski taking off across the lake without me.

so i heard his coils fail early in salt his stators fail early , now his switchs to , oem for me, they look great but fail early

I have had Johns Coil and Stator in my sj for well over a year and I run in salt 90% of the time.. NO problems what so ever.

But like I said, John at JSS fixed my start stop swith for free. OEM Yamaha wont do that.

What's "bad spot" mean? Bare or broken?

But: absolutely, yes.
