I think I am missing something here... are Kawis gas guzzlers or what? I get about 1.5 hrs of riding out of my 750 SXI Pro... and that is just putzing around... I would have to run it pretty much wide open to get 25 miles on a tank...

yes everytime i ride with jjc568 he runs out of gas and i have to tow is azz back in. he rides a 750sx with a single 42mm carb. i run a 701 with dual 44's and i always have gas left.

Once you put the ski in go for the first 6miles or so to the first gas station and fill up this will let you see how much gas you used in that distance. This will give an idea how far you can make it with that style of riding. If you are at 1/2 tank then I would recommend stopping at every station. I wouldn't keep spare water bottles with gas in the ski but I will make sure you have plenty of 2 stroke oil just in case the station doesn't have it. Also don't forget spare set of plugs

i have a back pack with clothes essentials and i am bringing 7-8 nalgene bottles full of fuel

thanks for the input. as of today it is still on for sunday morning. there will probably be 1000 boats on the river for labour day so i figured if i leave around 730-800 am i should be fine with boat traffic. i am stuffing my hull with spare water bottles and nalgene bottles of fuel now, hehe can't wait! starting point will be at 207 loudon drive and ending in knoxville if any one wanted to see the trip on a map... http://maps.google.com/

Not a smart move my friend... as you ride the unvented nalgene bottles which are not designed to carry fuel will allow the fuel to be heated but the heat in the engine compartment, causing the vapor to expand not to mention the sloshing of the bottles will also allow the liquid to release more vapor into the bottle. They are not vented like a fuel tank or gas can is... The increase pressure will put you at risk for explosion... Not a safe move at all...

If you want to carry extra 2 stroke oil or water in your hull that would be ok the vapor and flash point on the oil is hundreds of degrees higher than the Gasoline...

If you want to carry gasoline have your friend or chase rider carry it on the couch in a approved container...

Also with riding that distance it might be smart to have the couch carry all the gear to reduce the extra weight and fatigue...

Just my 2 cents...

I just saw this thread again and can't believe i didn't follow it up. i made it to k-town in four hours. burning 6.5 gallons of gas ( mostly drafting a forty footer) and approximatly 47 miles. I lived! but didn't make it back:( the Worx flame arrestor fell apart and partialy held a reed valve open killing the ski just as i rode under the gay street bridge, arrival destination) Would i do it again? In a second! i hope to make a few more similar trips next summer similar to these. i got to see some pretty cool things:)

Alright here is the plan i am going to travel 40 miles on my super jet to one of the largest fire work shows in the nation this sunday morning. then im am pulling the ski on to the dock and spending the night at a hotel, im riding back the next morning. any one want to join me? i have one person on a couch following me for sure. there are gas stations every six miles or so. my only question is how far can i go on one tank of gas? i am running a 760 with 35cc ada head and factory b pipe.

when the hell is this?!? i'll go! *****nevermind, saw that this was on old thread, i live in knox...so fire works in december seemed kind of odd.... anyhow...i didn't know there was anyone on here that rode standups *in knoxville besides me and 5810. who are you LOL ?? where do you ride??

Sean.

i sent you a pm!! i am about to go ride my neighbors flooded pond. 60*+ yesterday, cold as stiff nipples today. wtf.

On longer trips, I just bungee a 2.5 gallon gas can in my tray.

that would have worked nicely. ill do that next time. Thanks

Piece of cake

My friend I am proud of you for taking on this adventure, and yes it can be done. Myself and two friends rode the entire coast of the N.J. shore in one day. We started in Cape May and ended at the Clam Hut resuarant in The Highlands N.J. We rode 135 miles in heavy southeast chop. I ride a 2000 superjet with a handfull of mods, so your ski should be similar. We had chase vehicles, and had to stop for fuel 5 times. I find you can get at least 25 miles on a tank. Find a spot to fuel at approx the 20 mile point and you should be fine. Get in touch ,and I can tell you everything you might need to know. If you are prepared, train for this ride, and have a little luck, you can have a journey to tell your kids about. Mike

135 roundtrip or one way? did you do the trip home or have someone pick you up?

thats impressive! i would love to do something like that. i ended up keeping my fuel on the follow boat. i think the only thing that would have made this trip better would have been having more friends go with me. i was pretty much by myself the whole time except when i stuck with the follow boat..

Once i made it to knoxville i pulled the carbs while the ski was still in the water. (found a 2 1/2" piece of metal breaking my reed) don't ask how, because i honestly don't know how it got back together. but it did and it still wasn't running right so i pulled it up onto the swim platform of my buddies boat and he took it home the next day for me. :veryhappy:

It was a one way trip. I scoped out all the spots to fuel and had a chase vehicle meet us there. We drove to Cape May and stayed over night, and got going at 7am. I live near Belmar N.J so after we finished the journey and alot of beer and tequila, one of the chase vehicles took us home. It took us about ten hours to complete the trip, but it was one of the best things I ever did. If you want to go, we are going to do it again this summer and try to raise money for charity. Mike

Slightly off topic, but where did you guys take the skis out in the Highlands? I didnt think Clam Hut had a ramp? (or anywhere in the highlands for that matter) I live less then 4miles south from there...lol Post up if/when you guys are going to do it again in 2010.
