I figured I would start a build up thread hoping for some help!

This is what I am starting with.

2008 SJ

This is what I am starting with sitting on the work bench...

Rule 500 gpm bilge pump
XFT footholds
UMI bearing kit
X-Metal shortened turnplate
X-Metal 0-degree bars
ODI ruffian lock-on grips
Blowsion head w/ 185 psi
Blowsion Limiting rope, Kenney Keepers, Blowsion Hood straps,
Returfing with black diamond hydroturf
factory limited b-pipe
13/17 cutback impeller

I have the boat stripped, and am starting work on the XFT footholds. Does anyone have any install photos>? I want to make sure I have these in right. So far, the overall fit is "OK", but I have a ways to go to get it right!

Am I supposed to have that big gap on top? I was going to glass it in after I filled it in for strength. The pocket I cut out fits well, and I used a air grinder with a round ball to remove the foam easily.

figured I would work on the ski today, and I had a few questions for you guys. Do I need to sand off all of the blue jell coat in the areas I want to re-enforce in the foot box area? Or will the new glass lay over the top of it if I scuff well?

I have about an hour to work on it, slow but sure I guess.

So are people using Epoxy to glue the footholds into the foam, and then glassing around the outer areas?

Heres a couple of photos of the new progress.

I posted up earlier and someone said I needed to take it all down..... It wasnt bad doing it, but I was wondering about that. I was just going to skuff it well, but its done I guess, so on to the next step.

DO I GLASS THE HOLDS IN or EPOXY or what???????

I got both sides finished up last night. I will do some finish-up sanding and start glassing in the tray tonight.

I was surprised, the amount of two part foam that came with the FXT holds was perfect for what needed to be finished. It was nice to see the gloves, mixing sticks and glass also come with the kit. He did an excellent job of providing a complete product. All he needs now is some instructions and a photo or two and this would be a fantastic product!

1.I used a thin layer of marine grade 100% silicone to seal the foam inside the boat as an extra barrier against water.
2. I 2 part marine EPOXY to glue the outer edges of the foothold in place along with the screws and expanding foam. I now have a completely sealed area around each hold.
3. I will glass the holds in place as well as build up the tray tonight.

Here is a couple of photos of whats been finished.

man, those holds look like they don't have a flange all the way around to glass to....???

you will definitely need to glass them in... somehow

anyone w/ XFT experience should know the routine

those xft foot holds may be comfy for some of you guys, but I think they are so ugly.

if there is no flange all the way around I'd 5200 the back side and glass where there is a flange.

I installed christophers xft holds what a whip
All I can say is Glass them in good then sand and glass again.

As a 5ft 8 guy I hate those holds

Chris loves them as a tall guy

Just put a set on my build ski. Test run on Sun and can tell you (IMI) thay felt way better for my riding than others that have been on other skis. I will more then likely remove my other footholds and install XFT's. Glass all the way around and make sure that you seal the bottom corners good should remove turf to run the carbon or glass all the way up them. I think you will like them. Good luck
