Just my 2 cents - I don't use straps on my ski. But I've ridden a lot of other good riders skis such as Ross Champion, Mike Serlin, Matt Smith, etc, and the one thing I noticed is that every body sets up there skis differently because they all ride differently. Best set up for you would be to put your straps were you put your feet when you ride. If you’re not sure were you put your feet then try this, get a white grease pencil and stuff it up your wetsuit sleeve on your next ride. Then go for a ride and forget about your foot placement. If you’re not thinking about it, your feet will automatically end up at your natural stance. At sometime during your ride, when you remember, steer out of the waves into smooth water (with out moving your feet from your surf stance) and trace the outline of your feet placement right on your Hydro Turf. Then just go home and mount your straps to your outlines. Be sure and mount them to your toes like Taylor said so your can get out quick if you need to. The grease pencil will scrub off with soap and water or just fade quickly. I did this same method for straps on a tow surfboard set up and got it right the first time.
