Other The Idiots Guide of What Not To Do...or forget to do.

I have a good "what not to do"

I have one, out riding buoys at Mission Bay with a group of riders. All of our skis were sitting on beach stands in the water and one guy thinks it's funny to unhook his best buddy's steering cable at the nozzle on his modified X-2. After a while the guy jumps on his ski, goes straight across the bay toward the breakwater and waits until the last second to "rip" a turn.

Thankfully the guy jumped off when he realized it wasn't going to turn, but the ski smashed into the rocks at about 35 mph. The guy that unplugged the cable looks at all of us and says "don't you dare tell him, he'll kill me" I just went out riding while they piled what was left of his ski in their truck and left. Never saw those guys down there riding again.

Don't forget to put the cap back on your internal fuel cell.....

Guilty of that one...old 650sx with internal fill. Opened the hood, smelled gas, thought nothing of it...just put the cap back on. Then I had to jump it and the cable sparked ligting up the whole engine bay in my face while standing in the launch. Lost eyebrows on that one.

I just sold my 650sx to a buddy of mine. Told him take it for a couple of weeks, try it out and lots of ride time in since its your first standup. If you like it pay me, if not bring it back. The next day he forgets its loaded in his truck, bad night of sleep, not with it in the morning going to work. He pulls out of the garage and the handlepole catches the bottom edge of the garage door, drags the ski out of the box and sends it on a spiral down to the concrete lol. He said it made him darn near sick for three days thinking how to tell me lol. Fortunately the damage was minimal but a great way to sell a ski, he felt obligated at that point =D

Scary to think that could have killed someone. Its no wonder they didnt show back up...they were probably too drunk to get their truck out of the mud.

I don't think they were drunk because they were chasing buoys. I think he thought he was being funny and it went bad.

Launched my couch for the first time of the season with a few buddies. First guy to ride had only ridden a few times. I told him to wring it out while we loaded the pontoon to take supplies to the lake house. The slip was close to a restaurant/bar.

A few minutes later, the voices from the bar next door had drown out and I heard, "guys! yo! wtf I'm sinking!". I look and my buddy is flailing his arms around trying to get our attention on the half sunken ski.

I forgot to put in the drain plug, lol. Never forget the drain plug on a couch.

I forgot the drain plugs in a bone stock blaster. Partied on a house boat, tied up the ski and forgot all about it until morning.

It wasnt really affected beyond sinking down to the bondline. Stock foam did its job so well I simply fired it up and went in a straight line. Got lucky that time...been trying rolls on a rn with no front hooks 100y from local landing when the front of the hood slid the side enough to fill engine w water and sink to 2 inch bwlow surface. in front on everyone. It wouldnt sink completely bc of foam but never again without front hooks

once saw a guy at the launch with his buddy and a brand new couch.his friends backs it off trailer and rides out of harbor where he hits rocks near the jetty.ski stops and seesaws for a few minutes while he rocks it back and forth.punches a hole in the hull and rides back to ramp(50feet) tells his buddy who had gone to park the car what happened so friend tells him to back car up to load up.buddy gets in jeep, backs up,jack knifes the trailer, bends the tongue and crushes the left rear bumper horn.
done for that day.wonder if they still speak?

Something like that ^^ happened at a place I used to work in. The guy pulled a Polaris Genesis out of the ramp and forgot to lock the winch. Just as the ski cleared the concrete ramp he goosed the throttle and ski went back onto the concrete but the trailer kept going lol.

Oh, lol...I watched the water police do a good one once a few years ago...well, more like 14 years ago lol. They had a brand new jetboat and took off from the launch, cruised the lake all proud and chest up. My buddy and I were at his cottage playing his Playstation when his relatives mentioned the new visitors to the lake. My buddy just says out of nowhere not even seeing where they were, "yeah they'll probably hit something". They were way too close to a swim line and moving way too fast anyway. Sure enough his cousin said it, "they did hit something!". We get up to see and they were hung up on an underwater flooded out old tree top lol. They gimped the boat to the marina just about 300 feet away where the bilges ran constantly lol. 10 minutes of that and they raced back to the launch. The don't in this story, don't rip up a lake you are unfamiliar with =D

A couple of hours ago I ride out from the beach with maximum thrust and time a roller perfect to get a nice launch. The fun stopped as soon as I watched the back of my hood floating in the air until I landed then casually idled around while I connected my hood latch :-/.
