Year long engine issue, Now wont start

So im finally home on spring break from school to look over the ski, Im just stumped beyond belief.

Ive had Numerous issues with my ski and keeping it running strong. Last Summer i did a rebuild on my ski.

Wiseco pistons, A fresh bore, a slight port job. And running my dual Mikuni 46s.

The day I built the motor she was so strong, Alot of brap for me. As the summer went on she got more and more boggy. I decided since i sank the ski numerous times in the past to pick up a new electrical system. It seemed to not change the issue.

So now im home on break and the damn thing will not even start.

So i have:
Spark
Fuel from lines
Fuel if i dump it in carbs
Fresh plugs
175ps of compression in both cylinders
Its perfectly lined up on the timing.

I cant even get it to give a quick rumble...

THE ONLY sign of any life will be after a few min of trying and cranking and more fuel and trying , Ill get a backfire pop out of the exhaust.

Im stumped because it has all the crucial ingrediants run. Please if you have any ideas let me know. Im in town for 2 more days and would like to bring her back down to ride.

Thank you in advance

If it is the "i sometimes get a rumble when I let off the start button but not while it is cranking" behaviour that could be an open on the wires from the stator the cdi. I had a small nick in the one of the wires from my stator to ebox. I had spark most of the time I checked, but it seemed like I could never get it started. Maybe ohm out the stator wires from where they connect in the ebox and see if they resistance values of the ingition and charging circuits look correct.

If the resistance looks good swap your multimeter to AC voltage (analog meter is best for this) and verify you have the proper AC voltage ranges when it is cranking over. if everything still checks out OK swap out your CDI for a known good one.

Pull your manifold and check reeds, while your there go over your carburetors thoroughly, maybe even splurge on new rebuild kits.

Perform a leakdown test on the motor for sure.

I would also suspect the CDI, do you have a way to check timing?

Good Luck

When mine was acting the same way. I had an intermediate problem sometimes it would run for 10 min and would not start. It would backfire and pop once every 10 seconds of cranking. I unplugged the black/white cable from the start stop and it fired up instantly.

Replaced the start stop and now it works great.

I know the stator is on there tight. I took the flywheel off to check the timing. The flywheel key is fine. Im going to try jumping my start stop switch... but wouldnt it not get spark if the start stop was bad? I do get spark.

Im running stock yamaha reeds.

I have 2 seperate E boxs and both do the same thing.

The carbs are practically brand new.

Check your reeds, I had very similar problem after sinking at wavedaze few years back. Ski would not start worth anything but had good spark, ect. Turned out after the sinking I had 3 petals that didnt seat fully. Also really inspect the wires from the stator. I had a wire from the stator break inside the jacket and decide to stop firing a second or 2 after the green button was pushed. It looked fine but internally was broken @ the grommet going into the ebox.

My multi month nightmare. Happened after a bad sinking, stock kawi reeds. Boat ran awesome up until going under in the surf.

This would be a quick test^

Of course you will need a bent paper clip inserted into the white and black wires to kill it, or plug the Black connectors back together and hit the kill botton/ remove lanyard.... assuming it fired up.

Or pull the plugwire off and shock the sh_t out of yourself like I did....lol
