I went and searched, HB was the first, I already had edited my post bout the same time you posted.

more guys in the ocean riding skis is a double edge sword,id love to see more guys in our crew, but its already so hard to do and illegal most of the time, this could be a issue, but on the other hand, their is power in #s and this may work well in creating ski zones like that of daytona. The surfers have dedicated zones here 365. #s also brings more $ into the sport and $ gets things done.
Take a look at what Shawn white,Travis pastrana and others like him are making a yr.Most of this $ comes from sponsors and most of those sponsors get near 100% of their exposure from these athletes from xgames alone. They are FAR eclipsing pro surfers annual earnings 100% because of this TV exposure now that xgames is being played on the weekends on the major networks.

not to mention that a x gold in all events including womens events is paying out 50k,and big $ for silver and bronze, you add up all the events a skier or snowboarder can medal in and it blows away pro surfing payouts You get some talented freeriders out there and wave this kinda prize $ around and your going to see things get turned up ALOT of notches.

Don't you really mean yourself...and then some of the thousands of every day guys beneath you.

edit: holy crap....just looked it up...roughly 2.5 million "surfers" in the U.S. alone and 20 mill worldwide. Still lame to watch.

Many great points, but basically you need a controlled environment, like a flat water event. Surf is great, but it's ever changing -- real tough to bring in everything plus get the crowd close to action.

I have some great venues that are large attended events with spectators close to the action, much like Detroit river Days

And that is why Freeriding will never be in the x-games... Every hobby that is in the x-games has the environment controlled by the games themselves.

Height of ramp, number of jumps, degree of the lip, etc..

You cannot control Mother Nature, and every Daytona we are reminded of this by the number of threads and posts about what the surf will be like, weather, etc...

I ride to ride, and the more people we have out there doing what we do, the greater chance that the environment that we ride in will be taken away because of the douche bag minority.

man... I love to jet ski, but have never been interested in watching it... Most videos I own I have never even seen, nor do I care to. Watching people ski is about as boring as watching the grass grow IMO.. There are maybe 3 riders I could watch for longer than 5 min.. It's just not that interesting IMO. Also, surf is not cooperative enough and like Andrew mentioned most contests have a huge window to do the contest becuase it's tough to find quality conditions that would showcase the sport properly. Even if we did have perfect conditions, how boring would it be to watch everyone do the same 3 tricks... It's never gonna happen in the surf...

Just be happy we are not like surfing w/ all the fakes and kooks lining up to get in the water... Our sport would have been dead years ago if it had gotten popular..

On a positive note, flatwater freestyle has a much better chance than surf ever would do to logistics and so on, but like the surf there are not enough trick variations to make it interesting for long. Much more than surf though..

I am not trying to be negative just straight up..

Only way, Wave pool. same wave everytime..
competitors go one at a time, like all the other xgames.
Dirt bikes, snowmobiles, etc.

I think a wave pool comp would be sick... and I think that people would enjoy watching... Of course this would be big air type event.:Banane09:

Depth might be a problem.. oops. oh well.

Yep, just what the owner of a multi-million dollar pool wants is a bunch of surf darts hitting the bottom. Yep, that is really going to happen...

Im surprised to see you say this,We have alot of vids like the fulgaz stuff that we watch all the time,I only wish there were more quality footage shot out there. Its as entertaining as any other surf/fmx/snowboard vids we have. Im with you on the logistics though, very tough to do surf for xgames.but one thing is diff when x games is involved...$$$$$$$$ If it were run like a surf comp in a larger window in a area in cali where waves are good more often than not and just televised later it could work. One other prob is though we dont have any pros that really make a living from this sport like the others do in the Xgames.unless it were added to a multi stop thing like the dew tour foir sustained income. Most of the good riders in the states have jobs and wouldnt be able to stay long. But it seems the euro guys that compete are all mostly rich so im sure they would make it for something like this.the ifwa would almost certainly add this as the superbowl to their tour.

Flat water of any kind would never cut it for xgames, you have to look at what your up against. It might entertain a random crowd anywhere else but a xgames crowd.no way. Somebody invent some kinda semi flexible huge ramp with a pump sim to the flowrider that would keep water flowing up the ramp enough to keep the jetpump hooked up and you might have a chance, dont see that tech happening anytime soon though.

Look at all the prep involved with hauling tons of earth into an arena for MX,
X Games or Monster trucks etc....
They get the job done and the show goes on.
You never hear them saying "that can't be done".

as i said before i wouldnt expect u to appreciate it i dont even know why they would have it on tv 1500miles from the ocean...bwhaha and the last comment...lets just say this...jetskiiers as a group in my experience are the most out of shape/untalented bunch of pansies ive ever met (obviously there are exceptions)

im not going to argue anymore..you guys can continue thinking you are cool and i will continue thinking you are not...how does that sound??

wow..

GTFO. Couch riders , snowmobilers, atv riders.. are the "out of shape/untalented bunch of pansies" you really need to get out more.

it takes a bit of skill to ride a standup. and a ton of talent to kick a barrell or a backey.

Sports on TV have to be easy to edit/and package between commercials.

waiting for surf is the biggest drawback. and the viewing distance for things like racing kills the PWC spectator part.

Im a huge SUBARU rally fan. but the xgames make a circus act out of real RALLY DRIVERs at X. when they packaged it.. in a stadium and with a huge stunt jump. its not the real SPORT. but it catches the attention of non fans.

crap like snoboard halfpipe = figure skating to me.. i would rather watch a 19 year old girl in a short skirt skate around and jump over a long haired ginger on a snowboard do bacflipmactqist nut grabs.. Its not a Sport.. its a competition. Sports dont require judging. You dont need judges to determine who wins. the goals scored or first across the finish line makes the sport worth watching.

Freeride is a Hobby. Not a sport. yes theres some that are good at it. and yes they are good at promoting themselves and some companies like to have their logos on their machines.

it "could" happen. but dont hold your breath. its just not a big enough audience.
