SO FAR CHANGE SUCKS!!!!!!
To Wilkey and the OP...

I am just not sure what you think people on a jet ski forum are going to accomplish. I have a full time job, a family, lots of :):):):) to do and more people on "my" water than I care for already. Why would I get involved in starting a movement to further some talented skiers careers and get more people wasting time at "my" ramps and chucking trash on "my" beach? I don't have the time or the need for it. I think I am probably pretty typical of the people here.... so, not trying to be negative, but that's why you're not going to get anything moving here unless you start moving it yourself, if it means that much to you.

This community has done some pretty cool things and raised a lot of money for some good people and I am totally behind that. Xgames exposure isn't even a blip on my radar.

and see a post like that just almost sets me on fire. MY MY MY.......... if they are throwin trash and u see them MAN UP and say something, instead of putting your tail between your legs. k :beerchug::beerchug:

you are going to have a hard time getting her to "man" up.

its not about the older generation imo. im worried about all the new guys that are gonna keep pushin the sport. Just because all you old guys keep saying progression isnt gonna happen because yall have backied and thats as far as You want to go, dont mean thats where its gonna stop. X games would just push the new rider to the next level, knowing that you Have to go BIGGER and do better things.

I'm gonna play devils advocate so bear with me...

what reason is there to keep progressing to real dangerous level like you are saying?? No one in this sport will ever be a mainstream star from doing it and no one will be a millionaire either... you have to be rich to compete in this sport to begin with...

believe it or not I was talking to Travis Pastrana and someone brought up the double backy and it was right after he did it.. They said that it would be done on a jet ski soon... his reply was "why even do it"?... There is no one paying you for your risk and at the end of the day what does it prove??? He said he did it because of the situation and he was getting paid a lot of money to do it and that made it worth the risk to his family. WHere is the motivation to do something that will possibly really :):):):) you up?? Just to brag to buddy's? Is that a smart thing to do?? IMO That's why freerides have more interest than racing and freeride comps... not worth the risk to most people when the fame and payouts are not there...

it's not like we get a pension after trashing our body's for years like the NFL or something... I think people really need to think about what they are saying and what can really happen..

I hate to sound like the stick in the mud, but this sport is right where it needs to be and it aint going nowhere...

fyi - this is like the 10th year in a row this subject of the xgames has come up and it's the same story every year... bla bla bla...

people making their cases that really can't hold water if you really dive in there and really analyze things...

most people dont think they even make jet skis anymore... that should tell you a little about what people think of them.. NOTHING... they think nothing of them...

he he he...

So because the sport isnt going anywhere we should just stop progressing the tricks and our riding level? I dont think pierre saw it that way with the double backflip or any of the guys doing double backflips. I think it had alot to do with their personal satisfaction of landing that trick. I know that when finally land my damn flip that it will mean more to me than anything. I dont care if anybody is watching ill be stoked.

Yea what wilkey said..

I am not arguing the feeling of any of it, just the viability as a sport/buisness at that level...

I :):):):)ing love riding and love the feeling it gives me... At some point there is a stopping point right???

what are you willing to do for a buzz??? I know you have children and a wife.. You have to have some level you are willing to stop at because it's not worth crossing... we all do

did I say people should stop progressing??? learn how to read. I was mearly presenting argument... You understand that??

When did ross do his first superflip?? I'm gonna guess over a year ago. Name all the riders that have followed suit. I know of one and he did it because there was a title and cash on the line. (im sure that wasn't all, but I will speculate that it was a huge motivator) We don't have that push in everyday riding when there is nothing on the line. It's just that way...

As you are approaching that 8ft wave what reason will you have for trying a superflip??

still just making points here, so please don't get upset...

nuff said till i get my bars, do it, then i will tell ya y. or if im just another keyboard cowboy

ha ha.. I'm not directing anything at you brotha... you are killin it lately..

another factor that is not taken into hand is the fact that progression in the surf is very slow at best... every wave is different and it's impossible to practice in perfect conditions... that just makes it even harder for us to progress... name all the new tricks in surfing in the last 20 years... you can probably count that on one hand...

That's another reason why I think that flatwater freestyle has a better chance than surf.. You can practice the same tricks on very similar conditions..

word! if i wanted to make tons of money i wouldnt have started riding jet skis! its a hobby and a sport. i ride because its the funnest thing ive ever done in my life and i like to set goals for myself. i really dont like competing or any win/lose type event, i do like the drive and emotion thats brought into the water. THAT is the sick part of riding. something that cant quite be captured through a telephoto lens.
anyone will tell you watching skilled athletes compete at anything is only entertaining up to a point. freestyle anything isnt that entertaining unless you have personal exerience and can relate. our genre isnt very big, in fact its tiny!
BUT!
dont let the fact that our minuscule sport is so tiny make this seem impossible. how may street lugers did it take to get that i x for a few years? i first saw that and was like street what?? but hey i watched it, fairly entertained. now if i saw skis doing backflips i would have been shocked. just like the first freeride video i saw. whaaat!? they ride those in the surf? how do they not break in half!? remembering what i was told about jetskis and how fragile they are and easliy scratched the bottom is.
its totally doable, would reviatalize a dying sport and who knows maybe make it mainstream again.
theres not alot of places to ride the surf, none totally legal. so maybe thats the problem?
