What misery can I expect?

I've got a couple of hull cracks that are not severe. I want to flip the ski upside-down, motor intact, gas tank intact etc.... to do the glass work.
I'll pinch off the fuel lines etc...
My question: what else can go wrong? Gak up the carbs? fill exhaust with gak? Or is this O.K.?

Pull the engine, it's not that hard and you won't ruin your motor mounts. If the cracks are bad enough to be repaired you might need to reinforce on the inside also once you grind out the bad glass from the cracks thus leaving a thin area in the V you grind out. That is if you are planning on really fixing a crack and not just filling in small gouges.

It's summer. I'm not gonna miss a few weekends if I don't have to. I've had the motor in and out so many times..... turning motor mount bolts is usually when mounts break! I think they will hang just fine.

Salt water riders don't need lock-tite!

My main worry is gak running into reeds, carb, exhaust (not so much exhaust) but possible engine problems.

But I appreciate all input.

I'm really surprised at the concern over the mounts with all the stress we put them through on the water. Is it really that hard on them for the motor to just hang there for a couple days?

not even days.... we're talking 6-8 hours. If they fail. they need to be replaced anyway. But I've broken more pulling the engine than I have on the water!

Salt=Gods Lock-Tite!

Butti pretty much summed up my plan. Flip-glass-ride. I was looking for the "downside" of leaving the ski inverted for an extended period of time.

Reinforcement will happen in winter. After all, new footholds & all, I hope to put some stress on the ol' girl!

Empty as much gas as possible, just roll the ski on the exhaust side, and do the repairs that way. Thicken up some quick cure resin so it won't run. I've actually done fiberglass repairs on the bottom with the ski upright...it's a bit messier but it works.

I always heard/thought that rolling your ski upside down with the motor still in ran the risk of water running back from your exhaust and getting in the cylinder I never thought about the stress your mounts would take with a motor hanging from them. BTW if you’re a salt water rider, not only should you NOT be using lock tight, You SHOULD be using Anti seize on ALL your bolts.

Well, the best I can do is to fire it up & blast the crap out of it B4 I flip it. Hopefully that will get rid of most of the water. (I usually do that every time I run it) But it won't hurt...that's for sure.

Pull the tank, flip it, and lightly support the engine with a bottle jack or something to just barely take the full load off the mounts.

I did this for the hull cracks on my 650...it sat in the garage, nose propped up on a sawhorse, tail on the floor, jack supporting the engine, for 3 YEARS like this before I got around to fixing it, and no problems.

Maybe I'll do that. Again, it can't hurt. But "3 YEARS!" I'm only talking about hours!
You were riding something else....right?
