wetjet 46 vs retail 46

I read in another thread that a 61x wetjet intake with a 46mm wetjet carb will gain 20 horse over stock. How would a stock 61x intake bored to 46mm with a retail mikuni 46 mm carb compare to the wetjet setup?
Is there a big advantage with the wetjet setup?

NO, there's not.

The manifold has build in reed/case stuffers. That is the gain. The wetjet 46 has a wider bolt pattern than an SBN 46. Performance wise I could not tell you the difference.

The manifold is worth it.

That's not 100% true.
Some of the wet jet reedstuffer manifolds had normal stud spacing.

I thought the real improvement came from the wetjet manifold and not so much the carb. I could be wrong though...

I did, too, but after reading at length an explanation by the owner of Group K, that appears to not be the case.
There is a very strong rumor (backed by people who were very close to this situation back in the day) that it was done primarily as a cost-saving effort by eliminating product and tooling costs.

I did quite a bit or research on this about 3 years ago I think.

I will say that I still really like the set up. I'm actually pretty shocked that it seems no one picked up this ball and ran with it for the 61X motor. Makes no sense to me why somebody in the business didn't.

I've had I think 9 of these manifolds in the last several years.

Attached is a couple pics of what I think is the one that had the normal carb stud spacing. I went on a rampage a couple months ago and deleted about 1,000 photo files, and now I can't find anything. But I think this is the one.

I went from a stock 61x manifold with 44sbn to a wetjet mani with the 44sbn, HUGE DIFFERENCE. Then i added dual stage reeds and it added more snap. IMO it is well worth the money. I have a 46sbn to mount this year if i dont get a 48 powerbomb.

i's say that the full wetjet SYSTEM might give 20HP over stock...

high compression head
reed stuffers
port matched exhaust
westcoast PIPE

but just from the carb and intake, no way..
I think that's a totally realistic number. I had heard about some guys trying to get a complete Kraze set up into a Blaster hull, but I don't remember if it fit or not. I know a guy in China that has over 200 of those Westcoast exhaust systems left, but besides the fitment issue, weight is a big issue. They are sigificantly heavier than even a Riva Red Pipe or a Pro-Tec boat anchor.

Yup, in my experience, for the money, a Wet Jet 46 reed stuffer set up is absolutely a decent, low-buck alternative to the 48 Power Bomb (and much easier to tune, IMHO)

people want way too much for those setups because theyre rare. 300$-400$. ive seen dual blackjacks w/ mani go for less. i can think of alot of other places to put that money....
