3 days to turf?
you must be following the, "contact cement, then blunt, then more contact cement" rule.... instead of the, "contact cement, BEER, more contact cement" rule.
of course, im not saying any particular method is better, or worse, than the other.
its all about humidity and relative conditions.... right? :ugh:
I figured if I did not move the footholds forward it would be the equivalent of riding a normal length hull with my feet 3 inches off the back...like doing a constant tail stand.
Isn't that what you want? (I'm not bashing I'm just curious) I'm not a flat water rider but that seems to be why they chop the back end. I ride 100% surf and I hang my rear foot off the tray.
That is a good tip. I've been getting a template of 2 edges and cutting the rest freehand on the ski. It's really nerve racking.just like any custom turf job, you just have to take time with your template. initially, i like a very flexible template that 'mimics' what the turf would do. instead of straight cardboard, i now use the shipping foam that comes in rolls, to shape the template. then i transfer that to cardboard (because it doesnt move when youre cutting the turf), and then cut my turf. the diamonds dont necessarily have to 'line up' with the outer edge of the curved gunwales, either. as long as the outer edges of the turf are beveled, itll look tits.
we will have to get the answer from someone with more experience with the shortened hulls. i just did what the norm was.

nick you can pick up a heat gun for around $20 from harbor freight if you don't have one already. It's amazing how much you can stretch and form the turf with a heat gun.
I use the wifes old hairdryers... he he
that might help but it wont be as good as a heat gun.

I moved my footholds 6" forward to make up the difference in pole lenth, pole location and what i cut off the back. I didnt know this was the norm, but I figured you want to be pretty centered to backflip and i keeps the nose down on a short hull.
some love it set up like that, Others cant stand it. personal preference
