Super Jet Walmiltons Hoods w/ RRP Bracket

I have a Wamiltons freestyle 2 hand hold hood that I recently put on my ski and it sure sucks up a lot of water when I fall. It literally seems like water just pours in there.

I replaced the hood seal with a Watcon and it creates a good seal between the hull and the hood. The water must be coming from the air intakes that are VERY large.

Anyone else have any problems with this and or any solutions? I'm thinking about reducing the size of the air intakes to decrease the amount of water intrusion.

Getting rolled through one waved caused enough water to get into my carbs and motor I had to get towed in. The hassle of getting all the salt water out of the motor is making me want to take more action to prevent water coming on.

ive been running that hood for years with a crap hoodseal and havent had a problem...you can use a piece of rubber or laminate a few pieces of turf to make a flap to cover the intakes kinda like a scupper for the hood...

i dont have a wam hood but this very high tech device help me with water getting in my carbs on deep stabs and invert subs. turf with cord around it, stays in place and removes easy, ive seen some with the ends zip tied closed also

edit, sorry, but i assumed you have flame aresters. if your running the stock air box, i dont know then

Never had problems with my Wamiltons hood leaking in any excessive amount of water.

The only problems I had was that you have to reinforce the bottom of the liner and also around the bond line area.

How far up into the hood do the tubes extend? If they are flush with the inside of the liner then they can channel water right into the tubes. If you extend them up into the hood almost touching the top of the hood shell, then any water flowing inside the hood, runs right past the tubes and out the rear.

I want to give a slight update. First off, new this season is also an RRP pole with a breathing system, I feel that this, in combination with the hood and it's large breather holes account for a lot of places were water can come in.

I didn't even think about the RRP tubes which can allow for a large amount of water intrusion themselves put in certain circumstances. I normally ride fresh water lakes and am not used to having tumbling forceful waves coming at me when I am down. I am going to install my second bilge when prior to my last couple surf experiences never felt a need for. This should help get the water out twice as fast.

I am also going to close both of the Wamiltons closers on the hood to help with the issues, or at least one for the time being. Ill try some duct tape first to see if it even helps before I turn to a more drastic measures that would be more permanent.

I also want to comment on Wamiltons cusomter service. I e-mailed them about this issues about the same time as this post and I got an e-mail back within a couple hours with the following response. VERY HELPFUL IMO! I also added a pic at the bottom of my post of the large breather holes of the hood for those that don't know.

Kurt, move the hoses inside the hood as far up as you can for surf riding, leave only a small gap about inch, do you have a handle pole with a breathing system?

A little update. Went riding today, tapped both sides of the hood closed and the ski seemed like it was starving for air a little so took a half of one side off and that fixed the issues.

the first 10 min of riding went great and I thought the tape fixed the issues. It didn't, after the hood shifted a little water was just bellowing in... One of the guys that I was riding with said my hood hooks are too tall and I am not getting a good seal in on the front of the hood.

I am using OEM hood hooks with RRP bracket. I guess I need to get lowered ones and that that a try.

It never fails JetManiac, I always come back for more parts!

Stock rn sj I have been using no hood hooks for a while. Brap strap my wdk hood on and hope for the best.

My OEM hooks are deff right... I don't' think you can mess those up.

From Wammers site "Wamiltons Billet front hood hooks for Rick Roy Bracket is a must have for a freestyle/freeride ski, keeping your hood tighter and better aligned."
My hoods in contact with my hood seal, it just needs to not shift and needs to be tighter.

a ratchet strap is a must in my opinion but it doesnt give much clamping force to the front of the hood. when i went from oem hooks to the thrust hooks, it increased the front clamping pressure a lot.

I haven't tested my hood yet since my hood is at the paint shop and just finished installing the RRP bracket. I understand that the stock hood hooks don't work well, but my question is, will the hood hooks that came with the RRP bracket work? Or do i need the wamiltons/thrust hooks? Anyone know?

Heres what I am gathering. With the stock pole bracket, the hood hooks are off to the side of the bracket. With the RRP bracket, the hood hooks are ontop of the bracket. This gives the hood hooks that extra height (the thickness of the bracket) which therefore doesn't put as much downward force on the hood, creating a loose seal.

The aftermarket hood hooks are lower profile and have more of a lock in that prevent the hood from shifting left to right, and front to back, along with more creating a tighter seal because they are essentially closer to the seal.

With the cold fusion hooks there are the "Superjet" hooks which sit taller then there are the "hood hooks" which sit lower. I think I need the "hood hooks" that sit lower do to the extra height of the RRP bracket.

I can be WAYYY off here, Maybe someone can post pics of a stock set up stock hook hooks, stock bracket?

It was hard for my to really identify the problem of the water ingestion because I added my RRP pole, bracket, and hood over the winter.
