Tiny little lake surf.

So hard up for surf we decided to make a trip to Duluth, MN to ride lake Superior. We missed a small craft advisory by one day (also missed high 30* temps and snow) but got to ride some ankle slapping surf in 46* air temps. Waves where 1'-3', the locals got a kick out of watching us. Here are a few pics, hopefully I will have some more soon.

Here are some pics from Sunday, waves where taller, wind was stronger and the air was colder.

That was pretty good surf....I'll take that to any flat water or boat chasing session any day.....Love the caravan....

Same here, nicer weather would have been nice, and a little deeper water. It was breaking in three, maybe four feet. Not so good for rideplates, turn nozzles, battery trays, handpoles and ankles.

that actually looks like small organized surf and pretty fun.

most of the great lake surf pics i see just looks like big sloppy :):):):)

I was actually surprised, had not ridden lake surf before this and saturday had nice spacing with clean waves. There was a guy surfing when we showed up but he gave up freezing his butt off waiting for a nice set.

Anytime I see Superior waves they make Lake Michigan waves look pretty crappy. I don't know if it's because it's a bigger body of water, but it almost always looks cleaner and nicely spaced-not like the washing machine we have down here. I want to ride superior next summer for sure. Great pics btw i'd take small organized surf over big choppy junk any day of the week.

You guys are hardcore!! Our water is still 50 here and we have all pussed out already!

The best lake surf comes when the waves travel the farthest so they can organize.

Lake Michigan gets beautiful waves, but mostly on the north and south points of it where the waves travel farthest.
East and West Erie get the best surf when the waves travel across the entire lake. It is the shallowest so the waves build faster than any other great lake but they also die down the fastest. Erie is by far the warmest Great Lake (still over 50 degrees and gets up to 80)

Superior being the biggest and deeps Lake produces the best swells, but it is cold as all hell .

Don't know much about Huron or Ontario but I hear southern Huron gets some killer stuff in the fall.\

I'm on south eastern lake michigan all summer long and it isn't too often that we get nice organized waves. It is better in the fall, but still a pretty rare occurance to get "clean" surf. "Fetch" is the term that is usually used to describe the wind moving across the water.
