Other This may be a stupid question, but... Working on fixing ding(s) on the hull... How do

How do I flip the ski upside down to work on the dings on the hull? This is a new to me ski and I'm new to working on skis ...Totally stock 2001 SJ - Its LIKE NEW condition and I don't want to scratch up the paint and I don't know how to have it resting upsidedown? Is there a trick to flipping it over to work on the hull? Do I just put it on a blanket in the garage and roll it over? How do I keep it proped upsidedown? Is there a trick to it?

You say its in like new condition!!!!???

Just ride it and make it worse before even THINKING about that IMO.

Well.. except for the fact that it has a couple dings in the hull its like new LOL. ...I want it to be perfect - I'm going to fix the dings ( they are probably only cosmetic, but I want them fixed ) ... Come on -- ANYONE tell me is it just a matter of flip it however you can? just try to be careful? anything to be concerned about? -- there MUST be some tricks to it? ...some particular thing that works good to rest it upside down with out causing any damage?

Pull the engine first, and gas tank and exhaust obviously. I attach ratchet straps to my ceiling and pick the ski up in the front and rear and then just roll it over. I then set it back down on my stand (no hood). You could leave it hanging from the straps though.

Just flip it up on its side.. I'd take the hood off first to make sure you aren't leaking fuel. Or maybe just pull the tank.
As for the dings, if it were me, I wouldn't bother fixing them. It'll be an endless battle if you're actually riding the ski IMO.

Believe it or not those little dings and scratches that characterize the bottom of your ski actually make it a little faster. It's the same science as the golf ball effect. A golf ball has little debits all over it because they hold tiny air bubbles which release the friction as it flies through the air. The US Navy found the same to be true with submarines. A Slight texture on the outer skin of the sub lessens the friction and allows the sub to pass through the water with less effort and more speed. When it comes to your ski, unless it's a large gash that's broken the glass, I wouldn't worry about it.

I posted pics... I AM going to fill the dinged spots with epoxy --- The question is just is there an easy way to flip the ski to work on the dings... I'm not pulling the engine, I'm not going crazy to make this a big project - Just want to quickly fill the dings to keep it from getting worse -- thanks evrytone for your advice, but the question is just a simple How do i flip it and how do I support it upside down... Its really seeming like the answer is just as I thought --> However you can!~ LOL no? Yes?

Right.. There is no answer, just do it any way you can.

Dude you say you want it "perfect" but you don't want to do what is necessary to make it "perfect". Everybody on the X will help with whatever your doing, just don't bash them for giving you info to do it right. Good luck with your SJ.

if you do decide to flip it on its side, just be sure to keep the exhaust side down. I'm with everyone else, I wouldn't worry about the dings. If you are riding your ski, you will always have small dings on it. I'm pretty anal about my stuff, but I don't worry too much about the underside of my ski unless its a deep gouge or crack.

just flip it over... if you go all the way, pull the hood, if you just tip it on the side, keep it exhaust side down... if your tank is full you're going to have a mess... that simple...

fyi, i am with everyone else... wouldn't bother, but you'll figure that out after you get a few hours on it and get more dings... but do as you wish, it's your ski...

pull the tank and battery, get a couple of tires with out the rims, throw a blanket or something over the tires to keep from scratching the side, roll it on it's side, fix dings and go ride....repeat after every time you ride.

After a couple of times of doing this particular repair you will decide no f%$Ks will be given and that it's a huge time vampire. Then you will begin to focus on other important things like a b pipe, footholds or fixing the chitty stock super jet steering.
