A kick tail is 1 inch pad shaped like a wedge to put underneath the turf to let you know where the back of the tray is.
Some people like it, some don't.

if this ski is yours... get a job and tell you dad to shove it. just buy these parts on your own and look at some of the other build threads like kx454's and djkorn1's for ideas

Do it!!!! I ride an 05 SJ and i am getting a 1000 bucks worth of bolt on mods and just installing them without my dad knowing. the only one he knws about is the footholds :) that would be a bit hard to hide. stock skis suck, just get a job and put all your money into ur ski, its great fun :)

Yeah. I'll probably get a job but my dad will pay for the Hydroturf and Spring tensioner for sure. But the other stuff I think I will have to pay for.

Back to this question..

Which hydroturf mat is more like the stock mat...the one with or without kicktail?

I'm guessing the Hydroturf mat without kicktail is like the stock mat.

Along with my hydroturf question in my previous post....

What is a flywheel for and what does it do? Also, are UMI 0 degree bars necessary? Are they more for a comfort issue or for stability/handeling issue?

Whats wrong with the stock bars?

Without the kicktail is like stock. Dont get one unless you might race or rip some buoys.... i find it gets in the way for messin around.

Don't buy an aftermarket flywheel or have it lghtened. Just leave it alone, if thats what your hinting at. Its part of the crank shaft, ignition system, and charging system for your ski.

UMI bars are much more comfortable and also help handling by pulling the rider an inch or so forward. I cant stand stock bars.

kick tails are kinda little pads in the back of the tray the arent really needed but you would be suprised the way they help you kick out the water its actually pretty sweet

ok..

i'm ordering the hydroturf mat without kicktail...probably no UMI bars this winter since i have no money.

gonna get a d cut in my ride plate, handpole spring tensioner, and maybe work loader intake grate

ummm def get a lightweight flywheel, but only after you doo motor mods.. if you have a wet pipe, and prop the flywheel is like icing on the cake! your ski will want to run away from you

why are you so set on changing out the mat? do you want to change the color? The stock mat is perfectly fine. Way better than what you find on a stock SJ.
It is a pain in the but to rip the old mat off, the use all that sticky contact cement and re-glue. Leave it alone a ride. Spend you money and time else where.

dont listen to this guy. Well, not yet at least. Ride it first.

The kick tail does not 'kick out' water either....thats the dumbest thing Ive read in a while.

Like oxnard said, I dont know why your so set on changing to hydro turf. Theres nothing special about it over stock mats. Your stock mats are made by hydroturf, if theres nothing wrong with them, keep them!

....kick tails are generally used for racing stance......

I would not worry about buying new hydroturf unless your putting in footholds.......its pointless

Macmashers suck.....usually a terrible fit and horrible use

Do it for real or dont do it at all

You seem really confused on what to get for your ski. Here is what you need in order of importance (my opinion). Mostly just ride the crap out of it!!!!!

1. Footholds (best mod EVER) (macmashers suck)
2. Wet Pipe
3. Bars (4 or 0 degree)
4. Bilge/Scupper

(Your allready in good shape)

5. Bump compression up (shave head or aftermarket head)
6. Flywheel (gives low end hit)
7. -2 Aluminum Handlepole/ Superjet steering
8. Lower end impeller
9. Lightweight hood.

*Free-cheap Mods*
Block off front air intake on hood and put a 2nd one in the back.
Hood Straps (keeps your hood from falling off and sinking ski)
***Do a search to learn how to do these***

I still don't believe in an intake grate on an SXR for freestyle. It makes it handle more like a race boat. You want it to slide around and porpoise a little to raise the nose. Stock, your boat sticks better to the water than any superjet with the most aggresive grate out there.

I have the jetdynamics intake, it's like a vacuum. I'll probably put the stock back on although concerned about the Skat magnum pump needing larger volume of water. Absolutely no regrets with the freestyle SXR, this thing will hit as hard as any SJ. Don't get an expensive hood, just chop the poop out of yours, mines down to 15lbs. I would honestly just ride for now and see if you really like this sport. It will break your bank quickly. I'm in at least 20k. Oh by the way in two years when you are off to college I bet there will be a nice SXR for sell. ha ha ha

Ive rode the mashers and for my first season jumping around on them and playing it was fun but after that i was ready for footholds instead but masshers r good to start with if you dnt wana cut up your tray

you wont regret an intake grate, if you cant hook up, you cant pop out of the water its that simple. i will be selling my worxs one soon for a more agressive soon if you are interested shoot me a PM.

I really like my ski to slide around. I guess it is just preference.
