Just my opinion, but there are several options out like DASA/Lamey and Team Scream big bore 1000cc engines that give a much better power/weight ratio than that will, and are much simpler to implement.

Interesting though.

I know that there are plenty of alternatives, but non are so reliable as a un-modified 140 hp standard engine.

The weight increase is 1/3 of the engine weight, basically it's a standard 760 engine + 1 cylinder.

And if....... the power is not enough, the increase to 160 hp is quite easy.

Hi,

As the possibility is there to install a 1200 in a superjet hull, and not many people have done this, I thought I have a go !!
During the past years I build all kind of engines for the superjet, all suitable for pump-gas. This 1200 project is just to see what happens with a 1200 engine.

Within "normal" standards it's not very difficult to install it into the 2008-2009 hull.
Indeed the listed hp for the xl1200 is 135 hp.

The unit will only be used for closed circuit racing, on almost flat water, and the racers already install extra weight in the sj hull to make a more stable ride. As the 2008-2009 hull has a 6 cm wider front section, the stability improves with extra weight intstalled in the hull.

This extra weight is not nessesary when a 1200 is installed.

What I am worried about is the pump and the impeller.
It will take some serious work to get them to match the hp output and the characteristic of the engine.

I am aiming for a linear increase in hp "feeling" to make it a easy ride "out of a corner".
Engine bay is no problem, and the possibility to stretch the hp output is nice.

i would think the pump would be fine with a tbm pump cone and appropriate prop
interestng build

Got the pumpcone, and a 16/20 solas "concord" to start from.
I will finish the build in appr. 2 weeks and test. (daytime job prevents me to finish earlier.)

I will update my site everytime there is news.
From hobby, the people who want to make a similar lay out, can see what it takes to make the conversion. For example the exhaust routing needs a additional part from a yamaha FX140, to make the 100 degree turn towards the waterbox etc.....

cool implementation.
looks like a clean install.
you could try a 144 oem pump stuffed with a 148 magnum insert.skat-trak is you friend.

The engine bay is finished (except fuel pick up), Thursday the pump change to concord 16/20, TBM pumpcone"longnose", r&d intake, r&d rideplate.

Almost 140 HP with a standard engine, (no special fuel, no need for high compression head, girdle, etc, etc.)

Great build up, very clean.

I know the extra weight wouldn't be popular for freestyle, but I still would expect some more commentary about this build up, especially considering how "simple" it seems. And he is right- for racing the extra weight in the nose will actually make the ski handle better.

Basically an easy, reliable 135 hp engine.
