You could always convince the wife to take a vacation out at San Fransisco, and then for some random reason, take an hour drive east, and happen to find The Ski Clinic, and then decide try out the Demo BOB.

RIDE THE DAM HULL BEFORE YOU BUY IT!!! Now to further the last statement, a 5 minute test ride will not cut it so arrange a weekend with someone to ride the hull of your dreams for 2 tanks of gas and then buy if you like!

I personally don't even think that cuts the mustard... Back when I riding my 750sx years ago, I loved it. Rode a 650sx and thought it was too stable but very fun. I rode two different SJ's extensively trying to figure out what all the fuss was about and continued to hate both. The only reason I got into SJ's in the first place was because I found one super cheap with the works. I figured I could part it out for more than I bought it for so I decided it was worth the chance. It wasn't until I set the hull up the way I wanted that I finally fell in love with SJ's and jumped on the band wagon. Even after I fell in love with my SN, I still never liked the way any of my friends SJ's rode. So basically the only thing that got me in a SJ was reviews from reputable members on here.

Even with the Superfreak hulls... I rode Lucaumpits hull with the XS1000 over the summer. Amazing motor and he can ride the heck out of that ski so I know it can do everything I've ever wanted to do but I just couldn't ride that thing. It slid all over the place and I'd catch the side edges and flop over like a noob. It wasn't until after talking to Berky for some time and riding pabloescobar's ski that I was even able to see that I may be able to make the hull work for me. Even still, there are aspects of the hull that would take me some serious effort to work out and if I couldn't work them out, I would sell it.

In summary... I'm just saying that it usually takes me a couple months to customize a hull to my riding style so I tend to lean towards reviews (with a grain of salt) over my own personal experience since I haven't ridden a single hull that I would want to buy.

This is a looong story, but well worth reading...

So the alleged 2002 CRF450R is out but nobody has one yet. My mother in law passes away and the funeral is in Corning NY. On the way I call a Honda dealer in NY and find out they just got theirs that day!!! The morning of the funeral I sneak out of the house real early and make a b line to the dealer where the 450 is and they let me test ride it! I loved it soo much, well you will see how much in a minute. I get back to the house and lie my azz off about where I have been. We are getting in the car to go to the funeral and my wife is in NO mood for my antics and my cell rings. Can you guess who it is? C'mon, take one guess. Thats right, it is the local Honda dealer back home in AL. I bought that bike over the phone. My wife still does not know that I now own a fofiddy. We get back home a few days later and I ditch work for a few to run down the street to pick it up. I get back to the dealership my wife and I work at and everyone wants to ride it. I still did not get caught.
I kept it at work in the tool room and 3 weeks into it she walks by and some dumbazz did not close the dam door to the toolroom and I was busted. She walks by and catches a mere glance and said so how long have you had that new 450? I again lie and say it aint mine and its a 250 2 stroke. She replied that aint no 2 smoke got a muffler that dam big. LOL I fessed up and sold the bike to one of the guys I worked with. 2 days later I buy #2. The f'ing bank called her. I sold it to another guy I worked with. 2 weeks later I buy #3 and kept it at a buddies house for approx 3 months before I finally had leverage to bring it home.

I have done some real shady poop when it comes to buying toys over the years. I used to stash racing money in a baggy in the frt tire along side the inner tube because she found my race stash in the air box 1 time.

I had over 20 hrs on my Matrix before I finally loved it. I like it from the start but it took me some time to "love" it and even after a full season I am still making mods to get it fine tuned to my liking. Changed all my turf this past weekend as well as my pole length and finger throttle.

I find this to be mostly correct, most of the SJ's I have ridden had straight bars and stiff handlepoles, two things I absolutely cannot stand. I have a SN I am building for next year,I will get the chance to set up a ski like I want it and ride it, maybe then I can see what all the fuss is about, if I don't figure it out I will go up for sale.

Matt, if I were to buy a hull on blind faith right now it would be one of Berky's. IMO you made the right choice.
I would love to own a BOB as a 2nd ski, but I am not that financially sound. lol I am gonna piss some people off
right now, but at the moment-IF Joe Eckert's XFT is still for sale in a couple months it will be in my garage, IF
not, I will own a Superfreak. (Of course all of this depends on my money and what Crammit does.)lol

You can reduce the S/N nose hunting by adding material to the keel ahead of the pump so that its flat instead of rounded. I absolutely hated Superjets until I did this mod.

What did you mean by 'nose hunting'? Always interested in sj mods.. Are you talking about reshaping the pump tunnel?

The hull section in front of a SJ pump (RN and SN) is flat all the way to almost the nose.
Not sure what kevbo means here.

Gil, I don't know if I should call the Governor of Alabama or give you a medal ,that was a touching story and a inspiration to married men across the nation . Ok I think it should be mandatory to try a ski before you buy one and have a cooling off period like buying a gun at Walmart.

I can relate to alot of the posts here. I have always owned and rode Kawis. I always wanted to know what the big deal was about Super Jets. First one I ever rode was my homies square. Umm how the hell do you turn this thing? Next up my friends Cynthias roundie. Again, how the hell do you turn this thing? Then my homie Jimbo gets one and then again, I cant get it to turn like my Kawi. Finally I ride a SJ with sponsons. Holy crap, I can turn! I mean this thing turns friggin bad azz!! It turns so good, I bought it...

Haha thats a classic i had 2 CRF450's in my garage for 14 months one was my spare and practice bike the other my race bike the misses alway thought it was my mates that he left at my place :-}}}
lucky for me she doesnt take much notice of the bikes so last season my 2009 KTM SXF250 changed to a 2010 KTM SX 250 :-}}} she dint even notice :-}}

but she did notice when i left with an Aprilia SXV 450 in my van and came home with my KTM RC8R told her i swapped :-}}

The only really good thing about being in the PWC repair business is I don't have to hide chit. Another ski in the yard draws no attention whatsoever. Boxes of parts being dropped of via UPS are common fare. Me spending all day grinding and glassing is commonplace here,plus no one is going to come out there while I am grinding to see what I am grinding on.The only problem I have is coming up with the time and money to complete these damn things. In the Summer I have plenty of money but no time, in the winter I have plenty of time but no money.I am looking for a part time job till spring to try and break this vicious cycle.

drive an oil truck. Pays well and doesn't take long to get a CDL. Not sure how busy the oil companies are down south but I know they hire winter guys up here. A lot of the guys own roofing/contracting/landscaping companies for summer work and supplement their income with the oil delivery gig through the winter.

I've ridden a BOB and thought it was pretty fun for the short time I was on it. It's definitely much different than an SJ but thats to be expected. I would love to ride it for a few tanks of gas and really get the feel for it. Didn't roll it but i tried two flips. Flopped one and just about nosed in the other. No trim.

Even after this short ride I still wouldn't jump to buy one (not because I don't like it) but because I didn't ride it long enough to even give a real opinion on it.

The only time I get in chit is if I lie about getting a new toy or part. I work for my money and my wife respects that so new aquisitions are no problem. She's been telling me to buy a new dodge diesel for over a year now but i keep on putting miles on my 2002 gasser. Why mile out a brand new truck when you can do it to an old one. What she doesn't know is that i'd rather spend money on new toys than a new truck and i already know i can't have both. :biggrin:
