What did you mean by 'nose hunting'? Always interested in sj mods.. Are you talking about reshaping the pump tunnel?

in flat water the SN will kinda rock from side to side if the water is remotely smooth. Almost feels like the beginning of the death wobble that 550's would do, the difference is the SN will come back where the 550 would dump you.

isn't the sn bottomdeck the same as a rn with the exception of the front bonding lip area?

Yes, supposedly.
I've sanded a couple of SN bottoms and one RN bottoms a few times. I've never noticed any differences.
And as I said, the hull in front of the pump is flat almost all the way to the nose.

I think he's talking about flattening out the pump cavity slightly. I've seen this done many times in the older buoy boats.

Yamaha did some changes here in 08.

Unless he's talking about rounding out the keel in front of the intake grate? I'm confused myself...

I switched back to a sj hull bc I am the most comfortable on a sj. I felt although short hulls are great for flips, you miss out on allot of old school tricks with the short hull. I still really enjoy the technical flat water stuff that peaked my interest in the sport. I just enjoy riding more on a rn sj that I don't worry about cracking or falling apart.

Gil that was the best story I think I have heard on these boards, at least this morning anyway. Now I have some ideas for hiding some :):):):) from my Fiancee. I really wish that my 2 GP1200's would sell. if I sell them for what I am asking for I will become superfreaky too, I have the greenlight from her if I sell them! If not its going to be the deception and denial method.

IMO, its simply to make back their money. Most of the stunt hulls people are selling, they are selling for the same amount they payed for them originally. Initially when they bought them, they probably believed that they would be able to sell the hull off for no loss, if not profit, for their hulls. Then to their dismay, everyone started hating the hulls, and no one wants so buy them anymore. Most people that are into modifying jetskis upgrade their jetskis frequently, so having a hull for 4 years isnt a good idea. And now since everyone hates the stunt hulls, and new hulls are being introduced, it is a prime time to try to sell the hull before it loses all its value, and then maybe buy a hull that you can sell for more once built, like a superfreak.

if someone pays more for a complete ski then it cost in parts, they are an idiot. yeah there is some setup and fine tuning time on new hulls, but you're labor might as well be free. i don't plan on selling my superfreak for some time to come. i just can't see hulls improving to much after this one.

Hulls will continue to improve as long as it is profitable for the hull builders to keep testing and making improvements.

The hull section in front of a SJ pump (RN and SN) is flat all the way to almost the nose.
Not sure what kevbo means here.

Look closer, the keel edges soften ahead of the pump. This gives the hull more lateral grip ahead of the center of gravity making it want to hunt, especially in smooth water.

The keel or the strakes?!?! The 2 outside edges of the keel? Am confused too.

I just looked at the bottom of my square and its flat all the way to intake tunnel where the front of the intake grate starts.
Looks flat all the way to me to me.
Kevbo.. Do you have a pic of one that you have filled?

I just looked at a FX-1 im doing some work on for a friend and its flat and starts to drop maybe 2" before the front of the intake grate. i'll take some pics tomorrow.

I believe Travis said this about the 550.

well, you'll have to tell me what you think when you getting yours. also, progress does stop. look at two strokes. they are all but dead now :( i can't believe you used a comment based off a 550 to an all carbon ski designed twenty years later. 20 years from now this sport will prolly be outlawed :(

It was a joke based on some very old forum character history. :veryhappy:
Had nothing to do with SF's or any other modern hull.

haha wow id just like to throw in that im not selling Bob becuase i HATE it or becuase im trying to make my money back... I love my ski! i went out in the SF bay and rode for 3 hours straight doing nothing but chasin down the v wake boats and had the time of my life and i can flat out tell you that if i was on my superjet i wouldnt have done half the things i did nore would i have had as much fun. Anyone here ride freestyle on dirt.... well stiff suspension, cut seat and cut fenders sure dont make for a nice trail cruiser.... but what idiot would setup a trail bike for freestyle... So yes, all you guys are right The Bob does NOT handle like a superjet... but for freestyle it handles a whole lot better. I passed up the chance to trade for icemans ritcker simply becuase i cannot wait to build another BOB. The only reason Ski clinic Crew is selling there BOBs is to get more out there and more people seeing how much fun a aggressive riding hull can be. I got back on a SJ and wondered how i used to roll that heavey tank... Im not saying the BOB hull is for everyone becuase no hull is for everyone, there is always gunna be someone hating but if your looking to get more serious about freestyle and want a ski that is going to allow you to do the trick the pros are doing.... then i think it would be very worth your time to take a trip out to the ski clinic and test ride a bob hull because lets be honest, when was the last time you saw a pro win a comp with hood tricks and nose stabs... WHICHH can be done on the BOB anyways, but who wants to spend time on the hood when you can be spending time upside down :)
