Ski dies during subs, any ideas?

I got the block off plate from blowsion, the hood is sealed with hood straps, 2x 500gph bilges and a oneway and I dont think I am bringing in too much water at all because the bilge hardly spit out anything. But when I do really deep subs it seems that me ski starts sputtering then dies when im at my deepest underwater but when I come back to the surface it starts right up and has no problems. Am I just running out of air in the engine compartment? Anyone else have this problem?

When you go completely under, you pull a vacuum in the engine compartment, which richens your mixture. If you're a tad rich already, it will bog.

I'd double check the jetting/screws.

Did u cut the extra hole in right rear corner of hood after u installed block off plate???

If not-flip your hood upside down-look at the molded air intake on left rear corner-take a dremel and duplicate that air opening on the right rear corner.

Been there and done that. ps-the guys are right about jettin-if u know yer goin out subin all day and ARE NOT gonna do any long wide open runs-lean out the bottom screws bout 1/8 turn and tops 1/8 turn-and DO NOT do any long wide open runs.

Let off your gas while your underwater... it will slow down the vacuum. you have to figure, the same amount of exhaust your ski is putting out is how much water your sucking into your hood.

If you come up and the hood is suctioned cupped down on the seal and almost imposibble to pull up right away you have a LACK-O-OXYGEN problem. Poles with Breathers work wonders. Especially X-Metals. :bananalama:

Alright thanks for the ideas guys, im going out now so i'll make sure to check the screws and try not to hold the gas down so much when I sub and see if that helps. I'll let ya know if I can get this figured out.

True story.. my SJ does the complete opposite..when I power sub, about the time its completly under water, it takes off and yanks me right out of the tray.. i tried letting off the throttle but it still takes off heading deeper.. sunday i was beat tired and I couldnt hold on once and let go, i came up before the ski and it popped up like 15-20 feet away !!
I kept doing it and found out my throttle return spring is too weak and the water pressure against the finger throttle (fat UMI) opens it up all the way..
now I keep my index finger under it to push it back..
I like a weak spring ( one unhooked on stock duals ) for long days/rides..

You need to pulse the throttle when under water: Braap! Gets you down. Braap! gets you level and braap! gets you up again. Simple as that

I've had the same thing happen too me. Freaked me out:bigeyes: . I subbed and it took off underwater. I come to the surface and couldn't find my ski until it floated up about 15' away. I thought it had sunk:frown: .

BTW I too think you're motor is starving for air and the carbs are going rich.
