100hp :bsflag:
i run a r&d afterburner on a 650sxpump with a skat c-75 (14/18) big hub swirl impeller. it was a huge improvement over stock on a x2. kinda like going from street tires to slicks. i can tell a big difference in all around performance/hook up. it made my 100hp feel like 150hp. just dont have the 1600.00 bucks to drop on my x2 yet.

save your $ and run a stocker..mags have too much hookup and stick to the waveface too much when u are turning in over vertical sections making u pearl...the lack ofhookup in the whitewater can be compensated for with proper/steady throttle application..when u are going over whitewater going out u shouldnt even be giving it gas when your pump is over the foam and when u are landing a reentry or something and going with the wave u can use the power of the wave instead of the motor..rarely is it big enough that there is so much foam in between waves that your pump dosnt hook up...even then with proper weight distribution u can make it hook up..surfriding is all about throttle control and weight distribution..or u can spend $ and buy an aftermarket hull with more rocker instead of learning to ride a sj properly haha

Assuming this is for only the OP and he only rides in surf.

Do you still ride any?

I have put bearings in my mag 1 time 4 years ago and I run trans. fluid instead of grease, NO ISSUES at all. I have a TBM in my other ski, that is ok but not pushing a mag prop and not running the same power in that ski either.
You will give up performance (ESPECIALLY in surf) going to a TBM. I would be interested in your mag pump and trade deal if you want. TBM has been in this pump since the year TBM came out with them (5 yeras or so I guess?) , never an issue.

I have boot if the mag is 144 or larger. Even trade for a heavy 140 LOL.

I'm not selling my mag pump even with all its problems. I just wanted to know if the TBM offered similar performance, and I can see by this thread that is does not. The Trans fluid instead of grease is a good tip, I'll try that, I've got nothing to lose but another rebuild. HA HA BTW how did you do that? do you stand it on end, pull the tail cone and fill it up?

I've had similar results with the R&D cone in a Kawi pump. It was a night and day difference and made an improvment in hook-up as well in overall performance. Wanting more, I worked with Dave at Impros to create a 650 based mag pump and although Dave's work was spot on, the mag was a big disappointment compared to the stock pump w/R&D cone. I guess the Yamaha pumps can be very different, but I wonder why??

i can understand wanting more. is 1600.00 bucks worth it. i'm pretty happy with the stuffer. i dont know anyone with a ski that has a magnum pump to compare for myself. i take it you ran both the afterburner and then switched to the magnum.

Yup, and then switched back to the afterburner after being disappointed with the Mag. The Mag didn't load the motor nearly as well as the cone. They both had the same pitch prop and ran behind same motor, so it was a direct comparison. I actually had to run a smaller nozzle on the mag just to keep it from tach'ing out too quick.

But again, it seems the SJ pump results are very different. Wish we had pump experts on this site with equivelant knowledge to some of the engine experts we have.

isnt this the surfriding section??

Honestly, could not tell you, I look the thread title not was class room it is in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just because something does not work for you, does not mean it would not work for somebody else.

personally I run stock pumps as well. That just not a justifiable cost to me.

Mag pumps are different. Where a 10/16 may work in a stock pump (or with a TBM/Afterburner) the same pitch prop is likely to not work the same on the Mag. Prop pitch, cutback and nozzle sizes have to be tuned just like jetting / Needles-Seat and Popoff in a carb.

I cant justify all that loot either. i have about 565.00 bucks in my pump. thats afterburner, impeller and a shim. my x2 stays hooked up. best part i have bought. i'm really happy with it.

If your happy, that is all that matters. Personally I think the pump cone works better on the Kawi pumps. Yamacat had one on her SXR (Limited) and it worked really well.

All in all, I spent about $1400 on my mag. It was one of the best improvements to my setup ever, well worth it.

That's what I have in my setback 144 as well, including the longer drive shaft.
