That's exactly what I was talking about. It doesn't compare to a mag, don't fool yourself.
2 rebuild per year are not normal. What does Skat say about this?

They say "You want to run our stuff? Pay up sucker!!!!" I'm disappointed theres no cheap alternative but thanks for the advice

I know a few people that run mag pumps, and none of them have to rebuild anywhere near that frequently

I've run several mag pumps...I've NEVER had to rebuild. It works exactly the same way as the stocker. Unless something isn't done right,. or water is getting in, it should be every bit as reliable as a stock pump. Don't bother with the TBM, the mag works...

Might be a dumb question but what is different on a MAG in the bearing area, that makes them leak water more often ?

x2 id like to know as i just got one... i cant see why it would need to be rebuild every 6 months, the stock pump i got on my 04 (which i brought new) has never needed a rebuild and i dont see whya mag should be any different if the bearings/seals are installed correctly

maybe an alighment problem or a bent shaft would cause the bearings to go unless its not sealed right

donno, uk had a used AM pump for a long time and the bearings were good in that too

well that does it! im going to a TBM

well, my 2 cents...I rode Matt's boat with a mag and then did some research, read alot here especially john's (227) posts about mags and was convinced of purchasing a mag, got one from Dave at impros a couple of weeks ago and LOVE IT !! it really is a night and day difference at least in the surf, My buddy shougrider on here wants to go with a tbm. so we will see side by each comparison, I have actually had to rebuild/replace shafts 3 times in a stock pump in one of my old skis, guess it goes with the territory... anyway sold on the magnum.

Bent shaft would most likely eat of the short shaft first.

I love my Mag and will never go back. I had a tbm on both a superjet and an sxr and honestly never felt much of a difference over stock.

A racing buddy made a comment last year when I was looking to get a mag for my superjet and he said they always have to rebuild the pumps at least twice a season. I'm wondering if its not rpm related?

on a race boat, the life span would would less, for most of our use, I would think you would be fine. Riding buddy has mags in both of this ski's. Had them since about 2005-2006 and never rebuilt either pump and he rides a pretty good bit. Salt and Fresh.

one thing I was told about tbms is that alot of people forget to run a big hub prop with em and that is one reason why some people don't get better results

save your $ and run a stocker..mags have too much hookup and stick to the waveface too much when u are turning in over vertical sections making u pearl...the lack ofhookup in the whitewater can be compensated for with proper/steady throttle application..when u are going over whitewater going out u shouldnt even be giving it gas when your pump is over the foam and when u are landing a reentry or something and going with the wave u can use the power of the wave instead of the motor..rarely is it big enough that there is so much foam in between waves that your pump dosnt hook up...even then with proper weight distribution u can make it hook up..surfriding is all about throttle control and weight distribution..or u can spend $ and buy an aftermarket hull with more rocker instead of learning to ride a sj properly haha

Or you could quit relying on the Superjet and surf-ride a 550. SJ's are crutches.

your pump must have an water leak issue ...

i've killed a set of bearings in one day when my kawi pump was full of water due to seals failure.

go with a plastic wear ring if the bearing are out you will not kill the impeller .

there is no reasons that the mag need more rebuild than stock , plus yam bearings are HUGE compared to kawi ones...

My stock SJ from 2002 have stock pump bearings ...

i run a r&d afterburner on a 650sxpump with a skat c-75 (14/18) big hub swirl impeller. it was a huge improvement over stock on a x2. kinda like going from street tires to slicks. i can tell a big difference in all around performance/hook up. it made my 100hp feel like 150hp. just dont have the 1600.00 bucks to drop on my x2 yet.
